I have a adequate SAT score to get into USC, but there are others in my school with higher GPA and SAT scores. MY SIBLIMG DOES ATTEND USC. Will i get in?
GPA 3.78
SAT 1970
The highest GPA in my school is a 4.35, and he has a 2330. What are my chances of getting in compared to him. I know i have an advantage because of my sibling, but by what amount?

USC will have a hard time believing the 2330 will come. It's a big school and they can take many from a high school. You have a sibling and their average stats, I think you'll be accepted.

^ USC has no problem believing those students will come - they enrolled 244 National Merit Scholars this year. http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/FreshmanProfile2008v3.pdf

National Merit Scholars only need a PSAT of around 215-220, which is an SAT of 2150-2200... not quite 2330.

I know one with 2300+ that is at USC, so I think there are more students like that. In my daughter's floor, there are students that were accepted to Harvard/Yale/Columbia/Brown but decide to go to USC because they go there free.

What's wrong with attending USC with 2330?? USC is ranked top 30!! What else can be better?? Harvard? My personal opinion is that top 15-30 schools are about same level.. So the important factor to choose college would be location/tuition/size etc

yeah exactly what pain says. who cares what that other guy has, just worry about yourself

USC is a very "stats conscious" university. They have played the USNWR rankings game to the hilt over the last 10 years. So while your classmates with the higher stats do have a better chance of admission than you, USC does not limit the number of admittees per high school. Last year, our local public had 27 students admitted to USC.

Last year, USC Spring admitted at least 2 persons with 2300+ SAT. So it's not like they always admit students with high stats.

why would someone with 2300 want to go, even with full ride

^^ i have a 2310 and i really want to go to usc

full ride = no money lost
wonderful location, near home
beautiful campus
great school spirit
phenomenal academics
and i am striving to get into the BA/MD program and potentially merit scholarship (I HOPE!)

thats the briefest list of why someone over a "2300 would want to go, even with full ride" to the awesome place of USC :)

I wouldn't go if they gave me a full ride + a laptop + a few thousand dollars cash lol

and painholic, that's ridiculous. Do you honestly think that Harvard and USC are on the same level academically? Just utterly absurd.

P.S. I'm posting in this thread (with a slightly peeved attitude) because some USC rep just called me on my cell phone, practically begging me to come: "Oh, we're just very impressed with all your accomplishments, and we'd love for you to attend...blah, blah, blah." Flattery, contrary to popular opinion, does not always get you everywhere.

hookem, why did you apply then? I thought from earlier thread all the parents said that was a prank call.

hookem168, you were pranked. Pretty funny.

Hey! Stueydue!! Good luck!!! (You don't actually need luck with your record :) )

hahahhahaha thats hilarious u got pranked!!

...
sadly people, rankings arent EVERYTHING
once you hit a school in the top 30, they're all good
im not going to argue that harvard=usc
but im just saying that you cant say you're not going to get a great education at any of the top 30 schools
i believe that once you hit those, you should choose based on other factors i.e. major, location, campus, social life, sports or w/e else anyone else might consider.
USC is a phenomenal school and i would be proud to attend.
I do have >2300 and i wouldnt be ashamed to turn down princeton for usc

TOCOLLEGE!!! dude! hows it going??!??
I was just at USC for like 7.5 hours today lol for the Discover USC Open House and it made me love the school even more. The band is awesome haha

^ Trust me, it wasn't a prank call.

He knew my SAT scores. He knew my first and last name. He knew exactly what I wanted to study/major in. He even gave me a phone number to call if I had any questions (I did call, and told them not to call me again hahaha). I know exactly where they got information (they sent me some reply card in the mail that I filled out and returned just for fun).

^Good luck with Harvard application.

^ Thanks. Working on it as we speak....or...type ;)
