I know someone working in admission at USC and they said that, of all their nm scholars who declare HYPS their top choices, there are a ton who get accepted to those schools but choose USC instead
It may not be Ivy but its got a good rep and a lot of good students want to have some fun after working so hard for four years and not kill themselves another 4 years
I know that I am applying to Georgetown and USC RD, and even though Gtown is higher on the USNWR rankings, i might just rather go to USC even if i get accepted to Gtown...

I think geographic diversity means outside of California with the goal of national and international representation.

Also if you are thinking of professional schools like law and medicine, college is like high school all over again, higher GPA is a plus. My neighbor's kids went to USC and got into some competitive medical schools in CA, which I've heard are very competitive for CA students.

USC admitted 45 kids from my school last year. Hope this means they'll be willing to take even more of us this year if we're qualified enough =/

Not to mention that SC is in LA which means anyone who has any sort of interest in Business or International Relations is going to have an upper hand being surrounded by one of the economic powerhouses of the country. The internship opportunities at SC for every single major are phenomenal. The School of Cinematic Arts has no rival in the Northeast (or even the rest of the world for the most part). There are many highly ranked majors and even people wishing to do Liberal studies benefit from a large university and a very classic liberal arts curriculum (via Thematic Option). A kid with a high SAT score has many reasons to want to exploit such a rich environment not to mention the fact that USC for undergrad is an extremely solid base for any sort of graduate work. And anyway who wants to freeze in that bleak New England weather, Southern Cali sunshine for the win!

Qzar, don't forget those interested in working in Entertainment. Have you seen where Annenberg sends its students for internships?!
