Competition for 2011

This generation ended around '91-'92. Which means it will peak around class of '13 or '14

bump...don't wann let this thread die... btw has anyone noticed how much faster threads are falling 2 or 3 pages these days?

Yeah, I thought it was just me; I have to go back three or four pages in order to see what's happening, if I miss one or two days.

I'm so excited to start.

ROUND 1: UMich (October), NYU Stern ED, UChicago EA, UIUC
ROUND 2: (I hope I won't have to go to R2-hopefully I'll get into Stern) UMD/Smith, CMU/Tepper, UVA, BC(business), BU(business), etc. (I might move BC up to R1 since they do EA and not ED)
ROUND 3: Get a job!!! (and hopefully send my last enrollment form to NYU Stern) and take the (AP English), AP Calc AB, AP Econ, AP Euro, and AP Enviro exams and ace them.

^ hehehe, so planned out and such! i have rounds too as well, lol... taking a lot of the same ap classes as you next year!

round 01: tufts ed i, bc ea, uconn ea, umich / brandeis ed ii
round 02: cmu, bu, northwestern, trinity, williams, umass, mcphs, risd. possibly nyu or syracuse!
round 03: send in all required stuff for school i'm going to (hopefully my #1 choice!), RELAX + ENJOY THE REST OF HS, do well on my ap english, ap calc ab, ap enviromental and ap francais exams :)

hopefully this will skip right over round 02 and my life will be dandy~ although i admit, i'm somewhat curious as to if i'll get into those schools, hehe...

Not likely, according to the statistics, the number of graduating high schoolers next year will be higher.
Should expect more competition.

does anyone else go to a small hs? well at my school we've noticed that the trend nationwide is relative to how the class of that year is at the hs. so basically:

06hs/10college - genius class (30% high achievers, 40% excell in 1-3 areas, 15% low effort, 15% no college

07/11 - 20% high achievers, 30% excell in 1-3 areas, 20% low effort, 30% no college

08/12 - 15% high achievers, 35% 1-3, 30% low effort, 20% no college

but those are just approximations. anyone have any similar trends for their schools??? i've talked to some of my friends from d-y, sandwich, and they say it's the same too. the pool may be bigger but the fish that the colleges want are getting harder and harder to find...

What do you guys have planned for your vacations after senior year? ( haha yeah I've already got mine planned, with possibility A, B or C, each depending on the specific outcome of the admissions process lol)

pkb, your school sounds a bit like mine. We certainly have trends in academic standards of the class, and ours are measured out exactly by average IB points.

class of 2004 - genius class. 100% IB diploma pass rate. 10% scores 24-28, 60% scores 29-34, 20% scores 34-39, 10% 40+

class of 2005 - smart class, but not as smart. 91% IB pass rate. 20% scores 24-28, 60% 29-34, 10% 34-39, 10% 40+

class of 2006, predicted, relatively dumb class - pass rate not yet known. 25% 24-28, 65% 29-34, 5% 34-39, 5% 40+

class of 2007, predicted scores, class of extremes - pass rate not yet known. 40% 24-28, 20% 29-34, 30% 34-39, 10% 40+

OMG that's so true jnesse, at my school, the Class of '06 is really stupid..then '07 is all competitive, sometimes I feel like I'm not going to get into any college.

Wow, that's my school, BigLA. This year both the juniors and seniors are taking AP Literature and everyone basically knows that our class (07) will dominate the seniors on the exam. Though it did seem like '04 was a really smart class. I think that since we were freshman when they were seniors made it seem like they were a lot better than they actually were. That seems to be a trend for everyone no matter what they year, just as everyone seems to label their sophomore year as their favorite year of high school (though this year is mine).

Um..my favorite year in high school is this one too (junior year) HAHA...sophomore year, I seriously felt like I learned nothing.

I plan on applying to 7-10 universities (possibly only 2 if everything works out). Here are my "rounds." Its nice to know I'm not the only one doing this. =P

Round 01: Rice ED, Notre Dame EA

Round 02: (if Round 01= rejection) Vanderbilt, UArizona (NHScholar=free tuition, honors college), Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth, maybe Duke, Emory, Stanford, WPI (no cost to apply for VS)

Round 03: Hopefully I'll be sending my final papers/deposits to Rice! Enjoying senior year, playing varsity volleyball, softball, tennis, basketball. Taking some APs, depends on which college I pick- and what credits I can use there.

It is a self-perpetuating cycle. The harder it is to get in, the more people want to get in. The more people want to get in, the harder it gets. It will never end until people start getting much wiser about the real value of a person and not just what is on a piece of paper. Fat chance of that happening.

I like how you think invictus...everytime I try to say that though, people get all defensive haha.

invictus: I totally agree.

Omg. That is my school too exactly!
2004 was brilliant and hardworking, '05 was smart, but pretty lazy, '06 -- we're so lax and relatively stupid. The pass rate of the APUSH test at our school is usually 97-98% but ... our year, it was 42-47% (forgot exact #). -_____-... '07 is pretty smart at our school, but man, the juniors in our newspaper staff don't seem to be the brightest dime on the street.

anyone applying to Duke?

It's definitely not going to be easier; every year the students at my school get geekier/more studious/nerdier. Last year there were like ten people in ap physics. This year there are 40. And, judging by the juniors, next year is going to be much worse...

i'm pretty sure i'll apply to duke...not ED though
