I am trying to get into MIT, and I fear that if I apply for Mechanical Engineering there will be more applicants for that degree and therefore more competition.
Right now, I plan on applying for Aerospace Eng. to increase my chances. I would really like to do mechanical engineering but the average salary is lower and, like I said earlier, I think it would decrease my chances. Should I go for Mech Eng. or not?
MIT admits to a school, not to a major. You don’t declare major until your second year, I believe, and even then you can change it easily.
@AvrgApplicant for undergrad admissions, it makes no difference. Ballerina016 is correct (although you can declare a major earlier than your 2nd year).
Thanks for the info. Will a college ever ask for you intended degree and if so does that influence an admissions decision?
