Competitive Transferring to UVA

Hello,

I am a doing the engineering program here at Piedmont Virginia community college. I am taking all the classes required by both the school of engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences as prerequisites and been getting A and B grades in all of the EGR electives and Calculus I,II, and III. However, I had a devastating debacle this past Fall semester of 2018 where I ended up getting an F in University Physics I and was automatically dropped out of the Guaranteed transfer agreement. my question is if I retake PHY 241 this coming fall and apply to the Fall 2020 transfer by March deadline 2020, what are my chances of being accepted? my GPA is slated to improve in an upward trend by then and would be approximately 3.5 if I maintain all around A’s in my classes. Also, since I have taken Calculus should I enroll in statistics and finite calculus as well to be considered for CAS.

Moreover, I am finishing up Arabic as a foreign language with NOVA CC this semester in the 202 level and also taking a non western perspective class.

any insight would be greatly appreciated as I am struggling between going to school full time and working 40 hours a week.

So, I am really anxious about getting into UVA.

Thank you for the insight and consideration

So I was in the same boat as you with getting an F and getting dropped from GAA, looking back at it, it was obviously avoidable but that’s besides the point. Firstly, you definitely do retake it and get a good grade in it, idk if you can get an A that would of course be best case scenario and that’s what I did but you have to push for at least a B because they will average the F and the new grade so even if you got an A it’d be like a C. Furthermore it shows that you fixed your mistake and you definitely wanted to have told them a brief reason why the F happened. If you have all the other prereqs you are competitive and if you have a 3.5, but you def want to retake physics. Good luck!!
