chances of transfering to Va tech engr

I am looking to transfer after the spring semester. I originally went to a small private college in virginia. The first semester i got a 2.85 gpa. Then midway through the year i got suspended for posession of marijuana. Then i attended community college. My first semester is about to finish. i am taking
physics I
Calc 2
intro to engineering
english 2
i will most likely finish with a b in physics, an A in intro to engineering and calc 2, and a c in english 2. What are my chances of transferring. Will the suspension really hurt my chances.

ask a counselor

Be open to transferring after 2 years (to save even more money). Your engineering grades are good, which bodes well for your chances, but a 2.85 gpa is probably below VTech’s average. You might need one more semester.

so even with an improved gpa of around 3.2 which would mean my average gpa would be a 3.0 i still can’t get in? Also i don’t want to do another semester at community college because after this coming spring semester i will have taken all the classes that they offer for electrical engineering. They don’t offer circuit analysis or anything like that.

Check the guarantee transfer program. If attending a Va CC, 3.0 GPA in engineering curriculum guarantees admission to tech.
Just do not get Cs, use ratemyprofessor.com to avoid tough profs.
Humanities, Social Sciences, PE and SDV are easy A, if you pick the right course/prof.
Take courses during summer and be willing to drop any C at the 60% (last day to drop), then audit class and retake next semester. This should turn your Cs into As.

I think you have good chances.

i ended up getting an A in physics and intro to engineering and i got a B in english and calc 2. So my gpa is just a tad under 3.5 I will have to apply for fall semester by february. Will my spring semester grades be taken for consideration when applying to tech or will they only look at fall?

do colleges look at spring semester grades? because you have to apply by february which is way before the spring semester ends, so you can’t send them your grades.

Virginia Tech starts all incoming engineering students in their general engineering program. You don’t get to apply for an electrical engineering major until later. I think the suggestion regarding the CC 2 year engineering degree was a good one. If you follow the course program you will fulfill the basic requirements at Virginia Tech and your credits will transfer. If you achieve a minimum GPA in your 2 year program then Virginia Tech will guarantee you admission.

I really have no idea how Virginia Tech would view your low GPA at your first college + suspension. I’m not sure whether just one semester of good grades is going to make those issues go away. I don’t see any downside to the 2 year degree. You may have finished all the electrical engineering classes but the engineering degree at Virginia Tech is going to require many other types of classes including English + (History, Social Studies, Sciences, Computer Science etc).

can i send them this coming spring semester grades before they make a decision?
Also can i apply to the engineering department and university studies, because i heard it is easier to get into the university studies and then transfer into engineering?
