Thanks a lot for your help.

Did you take the SAT's?

Your credentials look great.

Thanks! I didn't take the SAT because I am from Missouri, and more people are concerned about the ACT than the SAT here.

oh ok. Well the ACT scores are good enough for the academy. GPA is great too and a good CFA score. I'd say you get in, especially since you're giving them 2 nominations to work with.

After a long time of not hearing from the Academy, the rejection letter arrived in the mail Friday.

Wow, I would have thought you were definetely going to get in. Where are you attending school now?

Just out of curiosity, does the rejection to the Academy say the same thing as the rejection to the summer seminar? Do you mind giving me a line from it if you dont mind?

I am going to Park University right now in Missouri. I plan on graduating as early as I can, and then I will go to OTS.

"Your excellent record qualifies you for admission, but we are limited in size by public law and cannot appoint everyone who is qualified."

Have you thought abou ROTC?

Yes, that is what my rejection to summer seminar said.

I am sorry to hear that you were rejected. With your resume, I was sure you would get in...that admissions office sure is a mysterious place...it seems like no one knows how they really score you :-D Have you considered applying again next year? You probably have a good shot at getting in if they already said you were qualified. Good Luck with whatever you decide!!

Wow, your stats look great. Sorry you didn't get in. I am from Missouri also and will be applying next year. May I ask what congressional district you are in? Maybe there were a lot of applicants from that area.

I haven't thought too much about ROTC. I am sure that I am not going to apply again next year for the Academy. I do plan on going OTS after graduating from Park though. Dauntless, I am from district 4...good luck next year!!

Try ROTC, you can even get them to pay for your degree. You also may have more control over your future career. DS decided to go the ROTC route because his choice has a very large detachment, the university has his decided major (international relations, scholars program, where they can summer intern at embassies in DC) ROTC commanders reccommend to AF who should get what. In DS case, they stated as long as he gets at least a 3.0, remains physically qualified then they will reccommend him for a flying slot (he is going to solo for private pilots license in a few weeks, which helps his resume for the commander). In the last 5 yrs. 90% of the det got their 1st choice, that is why in the end he signed for ROTC before getting his answer from AFA (still waiting)

I would suggest that you look into ROTC for several reasons...
1. Financial scholarship (varies, but even the lowest pays 9K for tuition and 900 pm for books, clothing and incidentals)
2. You will be able to start to see/understand the direction of the service.
3. Depending on the detachment you can be able to go into your field...remember you must still apply for OTS, and then you will try to get your field.

When I say depending on your det., you should remember the larger the det. is the more financial scholarships they have, they also have more of a community. DS's detachment is one of the larger ones in the nation, they even have social squadrons. In the end for DS, he decided on Mar. 3rd before the board met, that if the det. could give him a guarantee or close to it, he wanted the program at the University. It is a personal decision for everyone, but if you know right now you want to serve, then look into AFROTC, thats a lot of money you could be throwing away, plus the chance to get the dream job!

My best wishes in your decision, we hope that our son will get to meet you one day in the AD world...PIma

Thanks bulletandpima, I really appreciate the advise, and I will keep it in mind. I hope to meet your son someday too.

Wow, that's really something. Your stats looked great and you had 3 nominations. Sorry about that Twist.

Twist you will...the AF is very small, if you don't meet him directly you probably will meet someone that knows him. If you ever get into the 15 Strike Eagle world...I am sure many of your instructors will know Bullet, since he has been their instructors, and you are only 5-6 yrs away.
