Hi!
I’m going to be a sophomore this fall at a top 10 school and am planning to apply to NYU and Hunter for transfer for the spring. Long story short I am extremely unhappy and want to be closer to home.
My stats are
HS GPA: 3.76
ACT: 34 w/ writing
College GPA: probably like 3.8-3.9 (I have to take a final exam in the fall, but am hoping to get an A) but I had a very difficult time mental-health wise and had to leave school early second semester, so I finished 3 classes in the Fall and 2 in the Spring once I finish the 2nd class in the fall (really really bad, I know). 5/8 classes total.
So I know my stats will be fine but I am so so worried that they will toss my app because of the classes situation. First semester I willingly took 3 because I wanted to adjust to college life (lol that didn’t work out)… I am planning to write a short explanation for why that happened and just say I got really sick and had to go home for a while (which was true), so I could only finish two courses with the amount of time I was gone. I honestly have no idea what to do I’m so unhappy at my school and am praying for NYU to save me. Because I can’t imagine one more year in hell.
Oh also, my school doesn’t show withdraws or no credit for courses. So it looks like a clean but abridged transcript.
If you are so unhappy at your present school you ill not necessarily be happier elsewhere until you deal with your provlems.
Why NYU?
If you’re no unhappy with your current school you need to assess why exactly and look for schools that don’t have these characteristics as prominent. And you have to apply to more than NYU.
Do you need financial aid? Because transfers get lousy aid and NYU has lousy aid in the first place (and no housing = would you be commuting?)
I understand all of this “dealing with your problems” and I’m doing that, which I won’t go into. I am unhappy with my school because it feels very provincial to me coming from NYC and it just isn’t a place I can feel happy for a lot of different reasons, and those shouldn’t be the subject of this thread. I am applying to NYU and Hunter. All I was posting for was I guess to know about the transfer process, since a lot of people who transfer have had a hard time at their schools (or have done really well and want to move up a notch or something), anyway I was wondering if this is a big issue or if it might be seen badly. I wasn’t looking to be counseled out of transferring.
Bump? Seriously worried and in need of positive advice or at least constructive criticism
Thanks
You are looking fir confirmation of a decision that you have already made.
The best advice is to seek counseling for the issues that you have.
