Really not sure where to ask this and I actually think I know the answer but want to confirm. I am a parent.
Please understand I do get all the homesickness and first few week issues but I just want my info straight to be able to give the correct advice.
These all relates to California CSU system
Daughter was accepted as a freshman at various CSU’s including Channel Islands and Monterey. She accepted Channel Islands and moved in early for a job two weeks ago. She has REALLY hated it, terrible home sickness and disappointment that her dreams of what college would be like are shattered. We’ve been fighting a battle to keep her there, hoping that when everyone else arrives it will improve. However they have no canceled some of the key components of her major (they canceled the Marine Biology aspects of the Biology program), so this is one more nail in the coffin.
What she really now wants to do, though I do understand it’s just a mental fix to her problems, is attend Monterrey. It’s nearer home and has a dedicated Marine Biology course.
However from what I’ve learned that is simply not an option and I’d like to confirm what I have been told. Monterrey (CSUMB) has already started classes so she could not attend until Fall 2018. I understand that since she has been enrolled at Channel Islands (CSUCI) she can no longer be considered a freshman at CSUMB even if she took a year out. I am pretty sure this is correct but would appreciate it if someone could confirm.
So this means her only options are
- Stay at CSUCI
- Return home to CC transfer later
- Stay for at least one semester and then return home for CC then transfer
Anyone know how transferring with 60 credits would work for someone who had spent some earlier time at a CSU would work.
Anyway, thanks for listening, advice or comments are appreciated.
