Computer Engineering undergrad UF vs. UCF vs. FSU

Hello all,

I am a high school senior applying to colleges. I am not only looking for information, but also for explanations of why these programs are different to help me write my college essays and tailor them to each college as well as make my own decision. As the title says, I am primarily concerned with the computer engineering programs, but I might dual major in computer science or another discipline so any extra opinions/ facts can’t hurt. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

At FSU, computer engineering (but not computer science) is in the shared (with FAMU) College of Engineering. FAMU is less expensive and may offer you a better scholarship (e.g. in-state full ride for 3.50 HS GPA and 27 ACT, out-of-state full tuition at 3.50 HS GPA and 27 ACT, out-of-state full ride at 3.50 HS GPA and 29 ACT, described at http://www.famu.edu/Scholarships/DSA%20Scholar%202015-2016.pdf ).

I.e. same engineering, but probably a lower price, for FAMU versus FSU.

Focus on writing a solid essay, you don’t have to go into great details about each program. UF, as compared to FSU and UCF, puts the most weight behind the application essay, so spend the most time on it.

My DD (engineering at UF) did her essay on campus involvement and international engagement, things she loved. Write about something you care about it. If it’s computer engineering, read up on UF"s website and google articles written by UF professors. You can do the same for the other colleges.

Good Luck!
