Computer Science and Film

My friend is interested in possibly double-majoring in film production and/or studies and computer science (or doing a major in one, minor in the other). What schools have top departments for both?

Man, i'm in the same boat. I was looking at UCLA. But i don't think they will let me stay there since i'm already a junior with only 2 years of core classes. (i would have to go at least 3 more years.)

UT-Austin is very good in both.

Frankly, I think it would be very difficult or even impossible to take both programs at once.
However, knock yourself out: FSU Film School, Computer Science

how about a major in film with a minor in CS? Or Vice versa if you are stronger the other way around? A minor in either one would definitely provide you a strong foundation with which to learn more on your own, or in the feild.

Either way, if you plan to go into CS at all. You need to get math through calc II out of the way, and go ahead and take a chemistry sequence, (just in case you decide you like computer engineering better). This way, for a minor in CS, all you have to worry about is Discrete and Advanced Data stuctures, C, and a few more of your choice. I believe those first two are where the most of the foundation lies anyway. (correct me if i'm wrong)

Either way, go to the school that has the one you want to do more as a better program. Remember, damn near every school has a CS program, and not a whole lot changes. But only a few schools have a decent film program.

I think people have done this at Wesleyan; with the right faculty-advisor, it would not be an unusual major.
