Computer Science at Georgetown?

So I just got my acceptance letter to Georgetown for Computer Science and I was wondering how the program is exactly. I know they offer both a BA & BS degree in computer science and it's not exactly a strength at Georgetown. How would a Comp Sci degree from Georgetown look to employers and graduate schools? Would it even matter since the demand for Computer Scientists is so high nowadays?

Overall, since Georgetown is a stellar school, I'm guessing job hunting, research, and overall opportunity for CS there can't be too bad.

Thanks

I’m not sure how the program compares to other schools because it’s so small. One of my friends is a CS major and interned at Google last summer and is heading over there again. He told me that the fact that it’s so unique helped him - a lot of employers don’t even know it exists here - so he could talk about the CS major but the Georgetown environment.

@Nick
so your friend goes to Georgetown right?
That’s pretty awesome

Correct, he’s currently a junior as am I (but I’m in the business school). So yeah, going to a technology firm definitely is possible from Georgetown - CS majors are in high demand as you know - but I can’t speak in terms of how hard the program is, professors, rankings, etc. I don’t know enough about the program.

Feel free to reach out to the computer science club or a CS professor to talk with a student. Include that you’re an accepted student.

Best,
Nick

@nick
thanks for the info but is the link correct? That URL is from Georgetown college in Kentucky, not D.C. I’m hoping that you’re attending the Georgetown in D.C. lol.

Fail lol, sorry. Clearly I’m in the business school and don’t know much about the college haha. You’ll learn if you come here that all the different schools are pretty separate in terms of resources and policies. ie MSB has it’s own technology department and printing system

Feel free to send an email to that organization. We’re all leaving for break though in a few days, so you may not get a response right away.

Hey iFrugal! I am actually a Freshmen in the college, earning a Bachelor of Science for Computer Science. Last year when picking between Georgetown and the University of Maryland, which has a top 20 CS program, I ultimately chose Georgetown, and I am glad that I did! Georgetown’s CS program is small, but is growing in numbers every semester. The program is actually really good, and provides students with the all the necessary info that allows them to go into any area of CS. Personally, the a great advantage that GU’s CS program might have over other programs is that you really get to know all of your professors and the program really teaches you to think in different ways in order to solve the same problem. I just completed CS 1 this semester, and I loved it, and will be taking CS 2, Math Methods for CS, as well as Calc 2 next semester. Just as a warning though, pursuing a Bachelor of Science requires a lot of credits and hours, and a TON of determination, but anyone can do it if they want it badly enough. Let me know if you want to know more about the department, classes, or my experiences so far!
