I am a rising senior and my CSU GPA is 3.54, SAT math is 660, reading is 560. I am now interested in computer science, what are my chances of getting into either CPP, CSLA or CSF?
I have taken up to Pre-Cal, if I take AP Stat instead of AP Cal in senior, will it lower my chances of getting in?
My local area is CPP, but everyone said it’s hard to get in. My second choice will be CSLA, anyone knows if they are good in CS?
Thanks.
AP calculus is more likely to be useful in satisfying CS major requirements than AP statistics will be.
do I have a chance for CPP, CSLA or CSF?
CS programs usually require 3 semesters of Calc 1-3 and a semester of Stats. I would consider taking AP Calc. If you receive a passing score, it could get you out of the Calc 1 in college and it is a more rigorous class than Stats.
You look like you have a decent chance at CPP for CS especially if it is your local CSU but since it is impacted, it could go either way. CSULA is a definite safety but not that strong in CS. If CSF is CSU Fullerton?, then it is also a Match.
Your eligibility index is around 4000, so you might also want to consider CSULB and SJSU.
I am a bit nervous about AP Cal in senior year, but I know I will work hard on it.
Does Fullerton has a better CS program than CSLA? If I only could get into CSLA, will I be able to get a decent job with their degree?
Thanks both of you.
CSUF (Fullerton) has a very good CS program vs. CSULA. Definitely worth the application fee. Most employers care very little where you do your undergrad, but what is important are the job skills you have when you apply for the job. If you are concerned, I would compare the CS curriculum’s of all your schools of interest to see if there are any major differences.
Fullerton has better CS program and so is Long Beach.
I am planning to get a graduate degree from USC in game. Would definitely try all 3 of them. Hopefully I can get into either CPP or Fullerton.
UCI has game to. USC is good but pricey. Oculus Rift used to have headquarter in irvine so UCI is a better connection.
CPP is probably a good match for you. Be sure to designate an alternate major - CS is very competitive and CPP is the only CSU that considers your plan B.
Other CSUs not mentioned above with solid CS degrees; Northrige, Chico and Sac - SDSU and CP Slo are probably out of reach but, could be worth a shot.
UCSC and UCR could also work out (though not enough info to say - they look at all 3 SAT sections, course rigor, EC and of course, essays).
Good luck.
