Could not find a recent thread looking at these 2 schools. Appears Maryland has a bit more to offer, but Delaware also very well organized and multiple tracks. Anyone with any first hand knowledge of these programs? Thoughts?
I think Maryland ranks much higher, if you put stock into that…plus the location is far better for internships. My S was accepted to UMD honors for CS also. I don’t recall seeing UDel on any lists that we pulled when trying to research where to apply. If money is the same, I’d do UMD in a heartbeat. (My S will be going to Purdue since he didn’t get $ from UMD but we would have considered it very seriously had the finances been the same). Try posting this on the UMD and UDel boards for inside insight.
UMD, if it’s affordable.
I did not know that DEL had a CS program… have not heard about that program. I visited UMD last month and spent time observing the CS department. UMD had great name recognition, is in a great growth mode with the state of art Iribe center coming up and being in the DC-Baltimore technology corridor offers great internship and job opportunities in federal and consulting worlds. Product companies recruit out of UMD. Go there if you can afford it.
