nagintapis - Does your HS rank and what is your rank? Are you in state?

@keesh17 UW is 4.0, rank is 17/272, and out of state, test scores 31C, 34M, 34E, 30S, 25R

I think you have a good chance with that GPA and rank. Being out of state is the main issue I think since many foreign students will be doing CS.

I’m no rank and out of state.

I would say that you have good to very good chance. The problems would be out of state and since your spread between your un-weighted and weighted GPA is small I would surmise you did not take many AP’s or Honors classes. I do think the internal UIUC GPA calculation take that into account. When a school does not rank the calculation does not seem to penalize you for that.

Well, I have taken 6 APs from freshman to junior year (Physics B, Chemistry, Physics C, Computer Science A, Calculus BC, and Statistics) and gotten all 5s. Those all directly relate to engineering/math, so it should help. Currently, I am taking Multivariable Calculus, AP Biology, AP Latin, and AP Economics. Also, multiple honors courses every year.

Ok, that will help a lot. Are you sure your weighted GPA isn’t higher?

Yeah, I’m sure. My weighted is brought down because I’m not in Honors English and I got a B+ in AP Chemistry.

@keesh17‌ applying early doesn’t really help with chances anymore, they took away EA. The only benefit is priority honors consideration.

When touring UIUC one of the Admissions Deans met with a small group of students/parents interested in Engineering. She said that when writing the essay to focus on connecting your material to something you want to achieve while at the university. I did get the sense that the answers to the essay questions are read.
