yeah the zen micro is a classy performer but not too classy on the looks if u get me...just a bit too clunky for my tastes...u should check out the new sony NW-HD5..that's amazing

I've been eyeing apple's G4 powerbook..... anyone @ McGill have one and/or know someone who has one.... I know performance wise it's great, I'm just wondering if anyone has had any glaring incompatibility issues with a mac @ the university.

I've an HP zd7000. It was s.o.t.a. once upon a time, and thus got it for a decent sale at costco. I really recomend looking there!

I do alot of cgi and recording stuff with it, so I wanted something heavyduty...and thus, its a back breaker to carry around. Because its the widescreen version, too, I found it near impossible to find a propper case for it! If youre in the market for a good video\graphics\audio computer, that isn't a mac, though, I recomend it highly. It has more ports than you'd ever need... four usb ports alone, among others, which for a laptop, I find very nice. It also has built in wireless, which connects to mcgill's wireless very nicely.

I dont carry it around with me often though, as it really does way several lbs. ... so I have it in a docking-station cradle (so I dont have to deal with the touchpad, mostly).

Bewarned about the cooling-issue though: it overheats very easily, as the fan vents (at least on mine) are rather absurdly on the bottom of the computer. It'll also rather hurt your leg (the heat) if you have it on your lap for a long period of time.

That said, I've had it for almost two years now, and its still a reliable beast. :)

lotsa ppl have macs at mcgill, i'm sure it's no problem

if ur in a specific program tho you may want to choose based on any requirements they might have or any courses.. i know one of my mac friends is always working in the management comp centre cause she doesn't use virtual pc or anything so she needs the school computers to do projects for classes like information systems~

what's virtual pc? man, I'm so not looking forward to doing projects and assignments again. That's the one damper about September.

it lets u use windows stuff on macs

oh, so if you have windows you're good?

why would anyone go to all the trouble to get a mac...? its utterly stupid...

even if ur like super anti-microsoft and a super mac lover...i seriously recommend u DONT get a mac...its not worth the trouble

i know someone who went to america (for engineering) last year with a mac..he had to buy a PC after a couple of weeks..because most of the software he was using was not compatiable with mac...

yeh u can use the virtual PC i guess...but y bother..just get windows...i heard the new windows longerhorn (sp?) is quite good..

if ur in arts mac is fine, but yeah science and architecture and etc, a pc is better.

virtual pc is okay and all but it's just more $$

the $$ is probably worth the trouble. Although Windows Office is REALLY expensive.

I've got a toshiba, and its sitting right beside my desk. The thing is I don't even want to think of opening it before I go to McGill, don't need to destroy it before I even get there.

i got a toshiba too! they're quite nice...

It just feels so darn new, I can't bring myself to open and bring the computer into deterioration mode.

I just got mine yesturday and I couldn't wait to tear the box open and start using it. I love it so much!

i'm still trying to decide if i want to risk it to get a mac...does anyone here know if it would be a problem having one for a management major? i realllly want an ibook but i don't want to be regretting it when i get there

depends on what ur doing in management

i wouldn't recommend it for ppl going into information systems

Hey, I saw a 750 off of 1500 coupon for dell lappys somewhere. I am about to watch a movie now, but in the future i'll add it to this post. Maybe tomorrow. Sorry but it's gettin late lol.

sorry, sold out. http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?threadid=116481

yea i saw that too.. but u need a US shippin address for the deal..

i just bought the thinkpad T43.. it looks so nice and is jam packed...

I'm getting a Toshiba too (I think... maybe). I want a Tablet PC (slate). What I really want though is a MotionM1400. It's kinda hard to buy them in Canada though- so I'm trying to figure out a way to get it shipped or something.
