So who's bringing..

A full tower, not one of those wimpy mid towers, but a FULL TOWER?
(I'm actually wondering if this would even fit in a Muir dorm)

Tower of what?

He means a computer tower...

But unless you're a hardcore gamer, most people won't even need desktops. Just a good laptop with external monitor/keyboard&mouse/docking station will do nicely.

i don't want to buy a laptop...is it really THAT bad to bring a desktop as long as i have an lcd moniter?

I want to bring my laptop, but I'm afraid of getting it stolen. I got my first laptop stolen last year at UC Davis while I was there on a summer program.

Even if you're a hardcore gamer, just leech off of someone else's.=D

i don't want to buy a laptop...is it really THAT bad to bring a desktop as long as i have an lcd moniter?

You don't need a laptop, but I've found it very, very useful if I want to work somewhere other that my room, and also for taking notes in class.

I'm gonna bring my full tower =]
Oh and I'm considering switching to water cooling...the fans noise is just soooo annoying when the weather gets hot...

Yeah I'm scared of getting it stolen too. It's just too much of a hassle if someone steals your stuff and since I live so far from my house I can't replace it for like 3 weeks. :</p>

I also don't see the point of a laptop, taking notes with one is more of a hassle then using pencil or pen, and there's the problem with batteries.

btw, which college are you in pacmanwu?

i wanted to buy a new desktop but i dont have money :(

i want to play Crysis, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars , and CC3

What about studying?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do people get their laptops stolen in the first place? Like they leave it unattended for a while or someone goes into their room and takes it?

Its often gets stolen when your studying in the library and take a break to go to the restroom, leaving the laptop behind. Some people then walk around and snatch your laptop, putting it into their bag.

so does that mean desktop is better than buying laptop??

I was just wondering, do students in science classes often take notes using their laptops??

@ric, lol that sucks, I'm building mine and my desktop by itself without lcd and all is about 650~, if you got that much I can show you my build.

@nate cali, geez you sure know alot about stealing laptops.. :P

dont videocards cost 500 bucks?
well if its around 700 bucks and it can run Crysis then ill use my loan money to build it myself hehe

I dunno about Crysis, but the card I got is 110 dollars and it will play most games on medium high right about now.

only a loser would have his laptop stolen
worrying about that is like worrying about your cell phone or your drivers license/school ID card getting stolen.

chanX: I'm in Warren, what about you?
ric: Yes If you're talking about those hardcore video cards, No if you're talking about cards that can handle Crysis. If you have limited budget, around $200 can buy a video card that gives you decent FPS with good enough graphics =]

Agreed with dima, don't just decided not to buy a laptop because you're afraid of it being stolen. Bring the laptop with you even when you're going to restroom, then I'm sure it won't be stolen ^_^

My advice would be to buy a lock cable, just to be on the safe side. This year, we had multiple laptop thefts in ERC. All of them stemmed from people leaving their laptops unattended. Some even ONLY 5 mins!
