I'm in AP Studio Art, and my teacher wants students to start thinking of ideas for their concentration. I have no freaking clue what to do! One of my classmates is doing Flannery O'Connor/Southern Gothic art. It sounds amazing, and I cannot think of a single cool thing. Just obsucre self portraits, but I'm sure thats been done. Well, I'm doing 2-D (photography, BW 35 mm and digital) so if any of you have ideas gimme a shout out. Cuz I need it.

please help!! i would appreciate it :)

I'll try to help but I don't know if this is what you need as I've never taken an art class before.

How about the history of 8-bit graphics, like taking photography with 8-bit proportions (geeky I know but somewhat creative) or maybe natural pictures with special poses.

that sounds really cool.. i like the natural pictures idea too

Just brainstorm a bunch of things that you like or have been thinking about lately or really anything. I'm doing 3D, so it might be a little different, but try to think of something personal to you and how you can fit that into your chosen medium of photography. Another thing that might work is to do a freewrite. Just start thinking of possibilities no matter how boring or random they seem and write them down. Don't stop writing for at least ten minutes or so and write literally everything down. Record your entire train of thought on paper even when it goes off the tracks. Then go to sleep, read a book, do something else and then come back and read whatever you wrote. Even if you just find the tiniest seed of an idea, the whole process will usually spark something. Don't worry, it'll come eventually. Good luck!

thanks silver!

No problem. ^_^

Try looking into some of the Depression era photos. That would make a good concentration. You could imitate their styles by capturing everyday life in the US.

i like that

I did AP Studio Art (drawing) last year, got a 4
I'll tell you what I did, if it makes a difference...
I got lazy and didn't want to do 12 giant pieces so I did 12 3"x5" colored pencil drawings using the same six colored pencils and a consistent style. I drew a variety of subjects and then bs'ed the written component with something about exploring the different forms of organic and inorganic objects and interpreting and conveying that in my artwork. Of course, I took the class as a pass-fail independent study with a laid-back teacher (I spent most of my time in that class eating lunch and catching up on homework), and so the mandatory workload was pretty much nonexistent...

Other than that, make an AP Central teacher account and look at the site's samples of student concentrations: http://apcentral.collegeboard.com - create account, then go to exams- exam questions- studio art- sample concentrations.

gah thats an awesome score.. my teacher showed up some portfolios and all the work looked the same so im assuming 5s and 4s should have same looking concentrations
