Concentration.

Well, I started my summer reading tonight and I remembered how hard it is to concentrate in my house. It's not terribly large and it's only one story, so there's not really anywhere to go that's quiet when everyone's home and awake.

How do you keep your concentration? I've tried headphones in the past, but my mind tends to follow along with the music rather than the task at hand. :/ I'm seriously considering getting some earplugs..

Have you tried telling your family to please be considerate and just be a little less noisy or make up a schedule for 'quiet time'? During the day you can try reading outside if possible. Maybe you can read out loud to yourself so you can stay focused and drown out the excess noise. Though it's umm... kind of weird, it might just help. :)

Are you allowed outside? Try the local library or bookstore.

Do your reading at 1 or 2 in the morning.

^ I tend to fall asleep when I do this.

My house is noisy too. You can't go in your room, close the door and just curl up on your bed and read? It's a good skill to develop. Especially once you're in college and you have a lot of other people your age making even more ruckus than your family.

But yeah - head to the library, or some nice quiet Starbucks... I'm sure there's somewhere :P

Starbucks is the WORST place if you want to read/study/concentrate. Don't even try there. I mean, look how busy it is. Try a smaller coffee shop.

try http://www.delocator.net/ to search for an independently owned coffee shop near you. :D

i put a nature sounds clock in my room when i study to drown out my family......and your mind doesnt really follow it because its the same noise over and over.

I live in a one story house, too, but my family is pretty quiet. Sometimes I can't concentrate in my house just because there are so many distractions (like this!).

Luckily, I'm going up to my grandparents' place for about 8-9 days soon. They live in upstate NY... lakes and nature... perfect for relaxing and getting that pesky 4598347 page AP Euro assignment done. A change of scenery is key, I think, when you just can't concentrate. I might start going to the library to motivate myself to work harder.

From some miracle I finished over half of my AP French assignment this morning... the story we had to read ended up being really awesome. I have to start my third AP English book... now. Jeez.

Yeah, reading outside is awesome. Especially in/under a tree.

I just returned from India, geared with some ayurvedic medicine that claims to make you concentrate more o_0..I haven't yet tried it.

Why would you listen to music? It would prove to be more of a distraction, like one more thing to multi-task. Get those earplugs, or the library/bookstore/outside that everyone is suggesting.
