I know that having 5+ AP classes can be hard to manage, but one thing that I find myself doing is wasting time during between intervals of events such as waiting for my mom to pick me up at school. What should you do during that time if it is too noisy to read and concentrate? I can't think of anything efficient.

use earplugs.

yeah, or listen to your ipod, if you have one.

I guess I'm just the type of person who works better in a noisy environment.

Anyway, I also suggest listening to your iPod while working to drown out the outside noise. If you can't get rid of the noise, you can at least turn it into something pleasant.

Get out a piece of paper and a few coins.
Draw yourself a dungeon. Populate it with monsters. Give yourself some inventory.
Start flipping coins to determine how much damage you do...

This also works well for boring math classes.

Or you could just daydream, which would require less effort :D
Actually trying to do something productive is probably useless -- be grateful for your "unwinding" time...

if you are willing to invest in some sound-silencing headphones, they muffle out peoples voices and silence things like passing-by cars, and you won't hear ANY background noise if you play music through them. they can get a little pricey, but they are well worth it.

if you make yourself work in those noisy environments, pretty soon you won't notice the noises anymore.

My parents usually take from 30 minutes - 2 hours to pick me up from school (late, I mean). I usually just sit and waste valuble time. I'm thinking about quitting xc personally just because I cant mentally stand spending my whole night sitting there just to find out they forgot I had xc on that day =

if by noisy you mean a lot of people there, why not take the opportunity to make some new friends since you're probably going to see those people again soon (if you have to wait for your mom regularly). Also, go to some after school sports games if there is one. i killed some valuable time in the winter waiting for my ride by watching my school's basketball games after i finished my homework.

if you love xc, don't quit it because of your parents' forgetful memory. write down the dates on a piece of paper and stick it everywhere - on the fridge, on the doors, on the car dashboard, in their suitcases or bags, ANYWHERE. that way, they wouldn't be able to forget if they wanted to. don't expect them to just start remembering one day, you have to make sure that can't forget. don't quit something you love (if you do love xc) because of somebody else. ever.

sorry for going off topic.

Have you tried public transportation? Or hitching a ride w/someone who drives in exchange for gas money? I'm sure your parents wouldn't mind spending a few dollars a week if they didn't have to worry about leaving you alone anymore :)

why dont you just go to a different location like 20 feet away where its quieter
or if its the school and the library is open go there

do the easy homework in the noisy environment. That way you're atleast getting something done, and it's easy to focus on something that you already know how to do in any environment.

Yeah, I agree with laura, just do the routine homework that is mostly exercise-based and doesn't require too much indepth thinking. But most of the time, I just stare off into space and daydream. It blocks out the noise and is a bit of a stress reliever.
