Concerned about lack of Aerospace /mechanical engineer jobs

I believe the bls recently reported their 2014-2024 job outlook predictions. I am shocked because AE is on the decline at 2% as opposed to 2012-2024 prediction of this career growing at 7%. The 2012-2024 job outlook for ME was growing at 6% but now the 2014-2024 job outlook is 5%. I have sometime before college begins, and I was planning to be either a me or AE, but now I am not so sure. Should I still pursue my dreams oh being an AE or me? I do not want to graduate in 4 years and not be able to get a job because the jobs for them don’t exist. Thank you.

With ME it is still overall growth so I don’t know why that worries you. With AE I’m a little surprised that’s the projection but it’s still a tiny decline. Further, no one really knows how these projections will change. Just two years ago you already pointed out how different they are. Also, even if the total number of jobs doesn’t increase, boomers are just entering the phase where a whole bunch will be retiring and so a lot of those jobs will be vacant and in need of being filled.

Just do what is your passion. It’s rarely a risky proposition in engineering.
