I was recently accepted to Stern, but found that I only got a 1k Stern scholarship. Why didn’t I get any loans?
Also, I’ve seen a good number of posts about people who got $xx,000 in aid but will not be attending. Will that be redistributed? MY EFC is about 43k.
Also, has anyone had any success with calling and asking for more aid?
Thank you very much in advance!
The money is not re-distributed. There is an appeal process that you can try, but it has nothing to do with how much money is “given back.” It comes down to how much they want to give to each student based on financial factors and how badly they want you to attend.
Call financial aid directly, and they can give you accurate details.
If you want to appeal, you should feel free to do so. Come equipped to say that you’ve been offered a nice deal from another school, but that NYU is your first choice (if it is). Is it possible that they made a mistake on the aid? Feel free to go back three times to lower your bill. You have nothing to lose at this point, but debt.
