Concerning Teacher Recommendations

I'm only a junior, but I'm starting to think about which teachers I might ask to write my recommendations. On College Confidential I have read about the importance of having teacher recommendations "match" the image of yourself that you present in your application.

My math teacher would write a wonderful recommendation and is one of the teacher advisors for one of my main ECs, so I'm sure she would mention it. However, although my English teacher would write a very nice recommendation about me being a good writer and thoughtful student (dime a dozen), I doubt she would mention my involvement in another particular EC. She knows about it, as she has seen me give school-wide announcements regarding it at assembly.

My question is, would it be inappropriate to just ask my English teacher to write a few sentences about my leadership in _______ activity?

You could always include a "brag list" with your recommendation. I don't think it would be inappropriate. In fact, whenever I have asked a teacher for a recommendation for anything, they tend to ask for a list of awards and ec's.

Yes definitely talk with your English teacher about it
