What kind of bands/singers come to the area on a regular basis? I hope to see more concerts during college.

And if not Charlottesville, what are other good nearby cities/venues within an hour, hour and a half?

Charlottesville has an awesome eclectic music scene. The smaller venues have attracted great shows and some relatively big names (Jem, They Might Be Giants, Dar Williams, Chris Smither, Patty Larkin, great jazz like John D'erth and Robert Jospe).

The "big music" scene is lacking but is expanding all the time...The Rolling Stones are reportedly planning to play at Scott Stadium.

i can drive to norfolk to see concerts

The band scene in C'ville is mostly local acts. If you're lucky, once in awhile during the four years you're here, a national act stops bye...

Its been 4 years since DMB played C'ville, and since the Stones have added C'ville to their tour, it's like every 4 years for a national band to play the ville. And lets see if I can find a connection, the stage manager for the Stones lives in C'ville... and two members of DMB live in C'ville and they all got their start here. Hmmm...

Spyderman, according to the article that I posted under the Rolling Stones in C'ville thread the University has hired a facility management company to book Scott Stadium and the new arena. The Stones is just the first act that they have booked and supposedly there will be more to come.

Yes wahoo'07, this has been in the works for a long time. Hopefully it will have an impact on a yearly basis instead of every 4 years... Also, what if you're not a Stones or DMB fan? It all amounts to a void in a once vibrant music scene in the ville.
