Hey all, I was wondering what they meant by conditional appointment on the website. As of right now, I haven’t sent in my college transcript yet nor anything as a matter of fact. Still waiting on word for a nomination. It says, “your final appointment will depend on your medical qualifications and our receiving a satisfactory college or preparatory school transcript,” that means securing a nomination as well right?

Another question is since I went to college this year, I studied the prep school website and took classes that best replicated (but not exact) the courses prep school cadets would take (i.e. Chemistry, Algebra, History, Chem Lab, and English) and am earning a 3.4 GPA. Will I still need to retake the ACT’s and get high scores to even be considered? Thanks!

I would highly recommend you email your USAFA counselor or ALO about this, as they will give you the "best" answer possible.

finally an answer! thanks zachogden..i've been trying to get in contact with my ALO and he hasn't called me back yet, he's actually not that helpful..whenever i ask him something, he always gives me like one word answers, maybe he thinks im just wasting his time because of my status as of right now..

conditional appointment sounds a lot like an LOA with nomination but lacking critical info (hence medical/transcript). I'd be very optimistic at this time. ;)

I agree... looks like you will be C.O. 2012!

As you note - conditional means that certain things might still need to be completed, and records have to be validated.

Everyone who wants into a service academy needs that nomination. Without it - it is difficult to get in. (Some Exceptions - appointment to Prep School and satisfactory completion of the curriculum there. Enlisted persons selected for service academy (competition is tough!). A few top ROTC students in their 1st, 2nd year can be nominated and get selected to attend the service academy. Those are the "big ones" ... and there are the extremely rare ones, like the child of a Medal of Honor recipient can attend, if they are academically and medically and morally qualified. Now - those going to prep school are still encouraged to compete for nominations from MOC - because is increases the flexibiilty of the admissions office when trying to select top candidates. (There have been cases when a MOC might only give names of 4 or 4 students, and none are qualified - and that is frustrating for the admissions office to have to tell the MOC that none will be selected. Very tough! The admissions office would like to have every MOC submit the names of 5 to 10 highly qualified candidates, and then they could select the top ...but not all nominations go to top performers, and sometimes the nominations might include marginally qualified candidates - but they get selected if the MOC doesn't submit more qualified candidates.)

Re-taking SATs or ACTs - it's up to you. Are you very happy with your scores? If so - don't bother. If the scores could be improved -then try to do it! Taking tough classes, like your list shows, is good. Don't forget to send transcripts to the admissions office after this fall's semester (or quarter) ends ...additional good grades is a strong plus on your application

But if you don't have a nomination, that should be your number 1 focus, and #2 should be getting top grades for this fall session.

o i haven't gotten a conditional appointment yet or anything if thats wat u guys think..in fact my status is still not competitive..lol..im still waiting on word from my senator 2 see if i got a nomination yet..but its killin me right now..i was also plannin on taking the ACT's again this sat..but one of my classes is having finals that day!! bummer..and no im not happy with my scores at all..
