We had a similar incident with our daughter. Last year when she started college, I would call every 2 - 3 days just to see how she was doing. She insisted that once a week was enough and would call us. She had a calling card and cell phone and for that first year we would talk maybe once or twice a week. </p>
<p>This year she went back to school (we are 16 hours apart) and we were getting weekly phone calls, just like last year. But, last week she actually complained (!) that we didn't call her. When I said that I thought that was how she wanted it and besides she's never in her room she said that we could at least leave a message. And she even sounded a little sad. I guess she wanted to know that we still miss her and want to hear from her. Of course we do!</p>
