Okay, so this is what I have heard: colleges will not see the ACT score if you don't send it.

Is this true? Does that mean that the SAT & ACT are two completely different companies (so different score reports)?

Yes, the ACT and SAT are put out by 2 separate companies.

And ACT has score choice -- they will only send the scores from the test date you specify (and pay for). With the SAT, if something goes, everything goes.

Wow, really??

I'm planning to take the ACT this year, but I am probably only taking it once to see how I do.

So if I don't send any of my ACT scores, the colleges will never know that I took the ACT, right?

Yea thats right

If you really want to keep your score private, you should not include your HS code on the ACT registration form. Some HS's may include your known ACT/SAT scores on your transcript. If you are satisifed with your ACT score, you can then release it to the colleges. A great thing about the ACT is that you can really "hide" your score from colleges if you are dissatisfied with your score.

Also: Is it true that you can CHOOSE which score to send? Like if I got a 25 and a 30, can I only send the 30 and not send the 25? I've been hearing rumors on how you can select which scores you want sent to colleges, but I don't know if this is true as well.

That's what I meant by score choice. When you send ACT scores you specify the test date with the scores you want sent and pay on that basis. The only way ACT would send more than one set of scores is if you asked them to, and paid for them to do it.

My daughter took the ACT twice. Her second score was lower because she happened to be sick. So we just sent the first set.

(Of course, if schools are specified when you first register, the schools will get the scores.)

If you are concerned that all this is a rumor, just go up on the ACT site and read about the reporting of scores yourself.
