So, I am 98% (maybe more...) sure that I will be attending a particular college, and it's best if I send in my confirmation by the end of the month. However, there is one college I applied to that I will not hear back from until mid-January. I am almost certain I will not get in, and I still wouldn't know for sure if I was accepted until late February. I was wondering if I should send in my confirmation now. I am NEARLY positive it is where I will be studying, and would be extremely surprised if I do not end up going there. I'm not really sure what I should do. Should I send it in?

Is there an advantage to confirming now, such as priority for housing or course selection? How much of a deposit do you need to pay? Is the deposit refundable if you change your mind before a certain date?

Yes, it’s priority housing and there is no deposit of which I’m aware. I was just wondering if it would be a rotten thing to do, if I am not 100% sure.

No it isn’t a rotten thing to do. It is a smart thing. If you do change your mind between now and when classes start next fall, all you have to do is let them know that.

I do not think there is anything either wrong or unethical about sending in your acceptance now, and then rescinding it if you get into higher-choice school.

Check the college’s materials and website very carefully, because I know of at least one school where you are encouraged to send in your housing application before you have even made your final decision on whether you will attend the college.

Okay, thank you!
