I just got an email from my counselor saying my orchestra class and AP statistics class conflict with each other.
So I need to choose from the two and pick a new class to fill the spot.

I was completely happy with my schedule:
AP Stat
AP Bio
AP Gov
Human anatomy/physiology
English 12 hn
Multivariable calculus
Chamber orchestra

I've been in orch since 7th grade

I am considering these classes:
AP Environmental Science (instead of AP Stat or orch)
Spanish 5 (instead of orch)

I want to have at least 3 AP classes, my interests are in bio, pre-med for college

Since you already are taking a math class, I would drop AP stats and take AP environmental. If you truly are passionate about orchestra, then I would stick with it. It all depends on how rigorous you want your schedule to be.

Definitely drop stats and take either environmental or Spanish. Spanish will probably be more useful to you in a medical career, but take whichever one sounds like more fun.

Enviro. should be ~75% covered in Bio., so I’d say it might be more useful to just self-study it. that being said, I’d take Stats. You’re already past the 4 years foreign language requirement for the most prestigious of colleges, and stats does not largely overlap with Calc., so it doesn’t really matter that you’re taking two math classes. And I think Stats will be vastly more useful to you.

No, orchestra is definitely more important to stick with. It’ll look negative if you drop it senior year without a compelling reason. AP Stat isn’t seen as that rigorous a class by most colleges- its an elective which can and probably should be taken in college as a pre-med.

@ivyhopes12 AP Bio and AP Enviro don’t overlap that much. Also self study is not really worth it- colleges won’t consider it in your application. It also doesn’t matter that Stats is a different type of math, you’re still taking two math classes when you only need one and could be covering a greater breath of topics by not).

I sort of thought the conflict schedule was a reason good enough to quit orchestra…?
I am just a little worried Apes is going to be much more time consuming compared to stat
any experiences with the two classes and comparisons??

APES and AP Stat generally have the same amount of work and are of comparable difficulty based on what friends have said.

As a side note, schedule conflicts are generally accepted if they are with an academic core class- you’d have no choice there, but this is an elective.
