Confused about CA State University transfer requirements

I'm currently starting my first semester at City College of San Francisco and am taking 3 classes, 1 GE course and 2 Computer Networking and Information Technology courses that are for my major. My goal is to transfer to San Francisco State University and had a question about the requirements.

I was under the impression that I had to complete all the GE requirements (don't know how many units that adds up to off hand, maybe like 40-45?) and then 18 or more units of my major's courses (which for my major is 21 units) at CCSF to qualify to transfer to SFSU. Is this correct? Is that what they mean for SFSU's 60 unit requirement? By those requirements alone that meets the criteria for an Associate's Degree. Is that what they're basically saying, is that I need an Associate's Degree/A.S. to be able to transfer to CA State college?

I ask because I was talking to a friend who lives in Denver and he said he transferred from a Denver Community College to a Denver State College by only taking the GE classes and nothing more. Am I doing it wrong? Have I been wasting my time taking classes that I don't need to for my transfer?

Thanks for reading my post, I greatly appreciate any information given to me!

you are correct. You need 60 units. Including all GE + major classes. Not sure about the AA degree though.

Go to assist.org and see what requirements you need to fulfill to transfer from CCSF to SFSU.
