I understand that NYU wants you coming if they accept you for early decision. The website says they expect you to withdraw all applcations to other colleges. Does that mean they do not mind if you appply somewhere else to Ed at the same time?

No.

You can only apply one ED.

You can apply EA to other schools though, correct?

Early decision is somewhat binding, whereas early action is not. But I think if they know you are applying ED elsewhere they can withdraw your application. Because it is the general rule with ED that you withdrew your applications from the other schools. I wouldn't chance it if that is really where you want to go.

Yeah, you should really only apply to one college through ED. If they figure out that you are applying to more then one school through ED they will reject you; however, you can apply early action to other schools.

I believe the only way ED is not binding is if they do not meet your financial needs, but don't quote me on that.

When you apply ED, you can apply EA or RD to as many schools as you want to, with no problem. You should apply ED only if you are absolutely positive that it is your top choice school, and also only if you do not need to compare financial aid packages. ED is binding. You, your parents, and your guidance counsellor will sign the ED agreement acknowledging this. You are only permitted to apply to ONE school ED.

This is not true. You do not have to withdraw your other apps unless and until you are accepted ED and submit your deposit.

This is what I was referring to.

As I mentioned above, and as is stated in your link, other applications do not need to be withdrawn until you are offered admission to your ED school. Until that occurs, students may apply to as many schools, EA and RD, as they want to! Most kids wait until hearing the result of their ED app before doing this, though. It's best to have the apps ready to go but, if timing permits, to wait to submit them until receiving the ED decision.

I apllied to NYU ED and five other EA (all of whom I found out before NYU) It's nice getting as many apps out of the way so I could focus on a rigorous snior year, I also had 5 more completed applications ready to get sent out if I had NOT gottten into NYU. TONS of kids scramble hoping they'd get into their RD school and when the don't and it's the third week of December, it's a HUGE crunch to do effective apps while working on midterms and such in two weeks

Good Luck
