I saw online that the move in day is August 14 and my parents got the plane tickets already but the housing contract starts on the 19th. Could someone please help me understand how it works?
I dropped by Housing today to get an explanation. Basically the contract with Golden Bear services begins on the 19th. Move-in is on August 14. I forgot to ask though whether that means that students have to pay for meals for 5 days on their own or not.
Thank you!
does the housing offer cover food as well? I got my offer and its pretty high 20k+
I called just to clarify if tr 4 or 5 days of food is covered, and the answer is yes. Sounds like those 4 or 5 days of orientation room and board is covered by a separate fee. I’m going to have to look closer at the fee schedule.
@kjake2000 the offer comes with the Blue plan, which is 12 meals per week plus some dollars. The Gold plan is an upgrade for $600 per semester, unlimited meals.
You must have gotten Foothill, which is more expensive than the Units or Blackwell.
@ProfessorPlum168 The fee is about $475 for the orientation, it covers 3 meals a day along with activity fees, advising and other stuff. Move in is on the 14th and orientation begins on the 15th.
Parents have their orientation if they are interested. My parents are coming to help me move in and are staying at a hotel on campus.
There are several other things that gets overlooked in the billing including health care fees, which can be waived with the proof of other insurance that meets the university criteria. If the students is already covered by the parents then you can request a waiver. It is tricky for OOS students, so please check with your parents’ insurance company to see if they will cover you in CA.
I got Foothill single room in a suite.
@doneinamonth Do you know where I can find information on the parent orientation? There is a hotel on campus? Thanks.
Do you know when we should be able to pick move in time slot? The instructions online say the deadline to pick a move in time slot is on June 15th but I don’t have the option to pick when I open my housing portal.
@socalemma refer to http://visit.berkeley.edu/lodging-and-dining/ for a list of nearby hotels. The Bancroft Hotel is a tiny place right across the street from campus, close to Unit 1.
Parents Orientation page is here https://orientation.berkeley.edu/parents-supporters/parents-supporters-orientation
but I am not sure if this was last year’s page or this year’s page.
@ProfessorPlum168 Thank you!!
