Confused about NYU supplemental essay

I’m applying to NYU this fall, and I found this on the admissions website:

"Whether you’re from Massachusetts, Manchester, or Mumbai, a freshman or a transfer, there are a few key things you need to do (by the deadlines listed below) to apply to NYU:

  1. Complete the Common Application
  2. Submit your Common Application School Report (for first-year applicants) and transcripts
  3. Submit your appropriate standardized testing
  4. Submit one teacher or instructor evaluation
  5. Complete our Artistic Requirements (if applying to the Steinhardt School or Tisch School of the Arts)"

It doesn’t mention or provide a link to a supplemental essay. I also found this on an unofficial NYU admissions blog:

“UPDATE: NYU no longer requires a writing supplement!”

Is this correct if I’m applying as a freshman for the fall 2017 term? If there is in fact an essay, where can I find the prompt?

The 2016 applicants’ supplemental essay was released in early August, so it may still be early. The prompt, if there is one, will be released on the Commom Application itself, and possibly somewhere on the NYU website. It’s always just been along the lines of “Why NYU?” so if you’re so passionate about NYU that you want to waste away your summer writing supplemental essays, just write about that.
