NYU Writing Supplement Issue

I am kind of freaking out right now. The deadline for NYU was January 1st. I submitted my application on December 30, but I did not realize until now (January 6th) when I was applying to another school with a writing supplement, that writing supplements have to be submitted separately! I do not know why I did not see that before. My application to NYU was successfully submitted, but the Common Application website says that my application is not complete until I submit my writing supplement. However, it will not let me submit the writing supplement anymore because the deadline has passed. What can I do about this?! I am going to speak with my guidance counselor tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone here has any advice. Will this prevent me from getting into NYU? Will I not be accepted because my application is incomplete? Will I still able to submit the writing supplement even though the deadline has passed and the Common Application won't let me?

I hate to say this but I think you missed the deadline. The common application will not let you submit anything past stated deadlines

I will have to agree with the post above mine. The deadline was 1/2 and unfortunately, you will not be able to submit anything at this time. Without the supplement, your application is considered incomplete and will not make it to the table for review.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this.

Dude, don’t worry. I had the EXACT same issue and didn’t realize that they had to be turned in separately. Everything was done, but I really did not see that you have to go through another submission process -.-

I just got an email from them today. Posted below:

Hello from New York,
In conducting a preliminary review of your application, we learned that you did not submit the NYU Writing Supplement with your Common Application. As our instructions explain, the NYU Writing Supplement is required to be eligible for admission to any of our three campuses. Please review your Common Application account online and you will see that your NYU Writing Supplement was never submitted to NYU. Unfortunately, you cannot submit it now via the Common Application website since the deadline has passed.
Please follow these directions to submit your NYU Writing Supplement within the next 48 hours:
Submit your NYU Writing Supplement via email to admissions.ops@nyu.edu;
Be sure to include your full name, email address, and your Common Application ID number; and
Use the words “NYU Writing Supplement” in your email subject line
We look forward to receiving your Supplement and reading more about you.

P.S. If you have already submitted your Writing Supplement via email within the last few days, you may disregard this message.

I never realized that it hadn’t been submitted, so as soon as I got this email, I went onto Common App and quickly submitted it. As you can see, from time they send you this email, you have 48 hours. They provide an email for you to send it to, so don’t worry about Common App saying you can’t submit. Best of luck and hopefully we both get in!

Hey, the exact same thing happened to me. I submitted the Writing Supplement January 3rd, and I submitted the Common App itself December 21st. NYU didn’t send me an email like that, but they sent me an email saying they received my application with the subject line “NYU Application Acknowledgement” so I assume I’m okay?

That’s exactly what I did; I emailed NYU my writing supplement. I got an email saying that they added it to my application. I am so glad that it worked out! I was seriously so worried. This college process is more complicated than I thought. Oh, and I hope we both get in too! :)

I just sent my supplement today since i received the email late regarding the submition
do u think they will still accept it?

and did you send the supplement as an attachment to the email

I am sorry that I am replying to this so late! They sent me an email saying that they had to receive it within a forty eight hour period, but I do not think that you sent it in that time. I did send it as an attachment. I hope that they accepted your writing supplement anyway!
