Confused about SAT score?

This June, I scored a 1940 on the SAT. 630CR 620M 690W 10 essay. On practice tests, my reading is 700+... (I took 3 practice tests to prepare). I don't know how I got a 630 on that section. Are my practice tests deceiving me? I'm using real collegeboard ones too.. What should I do? I tried to get a 2000 on this administration and then a 2100 in October. What can I do to improve my math score to a 700? And, should I keep on studying CR?

The june testing administration was very hard. I personally got a 2200 flat. 800 cr 740 m 660 w. CR is very hard to improve on. I would focus on bringing up your math. The only thing to do to practice critical reading is read high level magazines articles and truly analyze every little piece of it(tone, tone shift, etc.).

Critical Reading - Try to brush up on vocab using Direct Hits and/or Quizlet. For passage-based questions, working through the CR passages without timing yourself will help you improve accuracy. As you do more and more tests, your consistency will improve (perhaps 3 tests wasn’t enough).

Math - Make sure that you have strong foundations in algebra, geometry and counting/probability. Just as with critical reading, work through a couple of tests without timing yourself, and try to get all of the questions correct. If you come across a concept/problem that you are unfamiliar with, look it up. Check out other threads on this forum for books specifically tailored for the SAT Math.

Writing - For the essay, just do what you did on the June SAT. For multiple choice, go through the tougher (Level 4/5) grammar questions, and try to master those. If necessary, learn some grammar rules. Most of all, you are really close to a point where you are likely to overthink whether or not a sentence really has “no error.” Don’t second guess yourself, and trust your gut instinct.

Hope this helps! Good Luck! :)

Where did you take the test, U.S or Intl?

US @Phongtheha

I agree with the amount of practice tests not being enough. In my case, I do a 1 or 2 practice tests untimed for CR and then do the rest of the tests in the book w/time. Practice makes perfect and if you review the questions you got wrong for CR, then you can definitely raise it up.
