Confused about sat stuff...

Yeah, I know the title is vague but... I'm confused about the superscore and highest single sitting types. On the college board website it has two different versions for each. Can someone explain to me the differences between version one and version 2 for each? Here is the url if you need it: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/sat-score-use-practices-list.pdf

Ok, I’m reading it right off the table.
HIGHEST SECTION V1 means University will consider your other scores as part of the decision-making process. V2 Universities will not peek at your other scores and therefore wants you to submit any scores since lower scores get scrapped anyways. Thus, sending your 800-800-600 and 600-600-800 to a V1 is BAD (V1 university will point at the 600s and say “whats up with that”), but a V2 will only see the 2400.

And, hey, the same logic applies to V1 and V2 of single highest date. For example, say you tested in October and got 1550, then again in March and got 2200. V1 will see the 1550 (and maybe view you negatively) and V2 will not.

To sum it up, you should like highest section Universities, especially V2 Universities if you got some embarrassing (well, maybe less extreme but you get the point ;)) scores.

So I had one of those embarrassing drops. I got a 780M, 740W, 570Cr first time then 750M, 650W, and 730Cr the second tim. Should I send both scores to a highest section version one school, or just the second sitting?

I’d send them both so they know that you have bad test days too. They might give it a weird look, but it really shouldn’t be a deciding factor. In fact, they should hail your score-raising abilities (it wasn’t truly an embarrassing drop, but a valiant rise :stuck_out_tongue: (oops, didn’t see the writing score… I guess that’s something to worry about:o)) If you’re still worried, the best case scenario is to score extremely well in one sitting if you can retest.

The drops I’m talking about are as follows:
1st: 760 680 720
(hurr durr… retake!)
2nd: 590 700 720
It still might be worth sending both for a negligible 20 point increase if super scored (obviously a no-no for single sitting Us- send the 1st!.)

Isn’t it bad to take the sat more than 2 times? I know my superstore won’t go up, maybe 20 points if I don’t mess up in math. I’m just worried about the drop in writing the second time.

Well, third times the charm. It really depends on where you’re applying. If a majority are superscore V2, it doesn’t matter too much, but if there are bunches of single-sittings, I’d retake it. And immediately cancel the score test if things go wrong (you can roam this forum on the day of and see how other CCers answered.) Sometimes, however, you’ll just have to call it quits. Your GPA, SAT IIs, teacher recs and other academic credentials can “make up” for it.
