I know that Bowdoin doesn’t require SAT scores but this is confusing to me because it seems like that is one way that most colleges can see where applicants are in regards to others. Does not submitting scores affect how your application will be looked at?
How does Bowdoin actually treat SAT scores if they are not required?
Is it beneficial to submit scores?
If I didn’t submit scores would it be more difficult to get accepted?

What the Bowdoin admissions people have said in the past is that when an applicant does not submit SAT scores, they examine the applicant's academic credentials more closely to assess intellectual capabilities. I would guess that good SAT scores give them a sense of confidence as to the applicant's basic intellectual capabilities. In the absence of them, they look elsewhere to make that judgment.
