Confused about teaching degree

I'm interested in becoming a teacher, but I'm confused as to whether I need to major in an education-related field, such as Secondary Education or if I can major in whatever I like, e.g. Biology, and get a Masters in Education, and be qualified.

I'm hesitant to major in something purely education-related because if I decide NOT to become a teacher, then I'm stuck with a worthless teaching degree. I'd rather major in something broad that encompasses a variety of career paths and then if I decide to teach, take the extra step to qualify.

Any advice is appreciated.

Requirements vary by state, but you could certainly major in your subject of interest and if you are still interested in teaching, get either your MA in teaching or simply your teacher certification.
