confused about the mid-year report

I'm applying regular decision to several common application schools. I've ordered my transcripts (which won't include my first semester senior grades), and given my counselor the secondary school report to send all in a bundle with my letter of recs.

So when the semester ends, do I just give my counselor the mid-year report to fill out and send to all the schools I'm applying to along with an updated transcript? Commonapp.org says my school is using Navience eDocs, but my counselor says that they haven't set it up yet/figured it out, so I've just been printing out all forms for my counselor to send snail mail. Will the commonapp.org recognize that the schools have received these forms?

One of the colleges I'm applying to, Emerson, says on its website: We encourage you to submit first marking period grades with the transcript.

What exactly does that mean?

Sorry if this jumps all over the place.

You should have your GC mail the midterm reports just the way you described. Your common app account will not update to show you that schools are receiving mailed items. It only tracks items submitted electronically through the common app site. Schools vary in the ways they notify you when they receive your items: email, online system or even by mail.

Emerson wants your GC to include whatever fall term grades you might have available when you send in your app. If you don’t have any, of course your GC won’t do this.

Thanks a lot. This whole college application thing is somewhat of a nightmare…
