I emailed them first and guess I got a very nice guy.

Have you ever visited? When I did, I met with another VERY helpful guy. Everyone I have ever talked to has been extremely friendly, and just made my experience with them great!

Haven’t visited yet. I figured we’d wait until Spring Break (March) because then, we’d know her status with both Clemson and UF, whether she got in and if she got money from Clemson. UF encourages applicants to pay the housing deposit BEFORE you find out if you got in (thus getting 1000s of $25 deposits from people they’ll never accept), so we’re good with them if she makes it and can take our time considering.

Alex - my son was in the opposite position. He is not in the top ten percent either but that’s partically because they rank on the unweighted grade so the kids taking the AP classes can end up wih a disadvantage. His unweighted was 3.895 (higher now after last semester) which is like 94.4%…
oh well the reason I’m telling you this is that even though he wasn’t in the top 10% he still got a scholarship of $10,000/year. I think they have figured out that being in the top 10% isn’t that important. So don’t worry about ranking thing.:)

Oh, that’s good. I was looking at the stuff they send out from the school with the transcripts, and it does make the school look hugely competitive and prestigious (Newsweek rankings, how many National Merit scholars they have), so hopefully, that will carry some weight – otherwise, why not just go to an easy school? The Florida schools all know that this particular high school is harder than average, but I don’t know if out-of-state schools, particularly out-of-state public schools that don’t have a lot of applicants from there, would know.

I had heard on another part of this board that they’re fixated on the top 10% because it affects their US News rankings. But so does SAT score, and hers is good, as I said. So hopefully that will be enough.

And yeah, $10K would be great. That would bring the tuition down, if not as low as UF’s (which would be practically free for us) at least as low as some private schools to which she has received scholarship offers.

While its too late now, that might have been worth mention on the comments box on the application. Just for anyone in the future who may see this.

Got my acceptance letter today! But not as much money as I had hoped for but maybe more will come when I hear from the honors college. We’ll see! Good luck to everyone!

What money was it? Like what money are they including besides the academic recruiting ones?

Well I’m not need based so I’m pretty sure it’s academic recruiting? But I’m not positive. I’m in state so the letter says if I qualify for palmetto fellows, which I should/have, then they’ll send another letter in the spring. The acceptance letter had 4,000 (1,000 a year) and maybe there will be more if I get into Calhoun honors. I read online that if you’re a palmetto hellos with a 1400 or 32 then they add another 1000 or something like that.

Ah I am OOS so I know nothing about in state scholarships in SC. and pardon me for not saying this before, but CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you!

Alex23, Clemson usually mails out their acceptance letters a few days earlier before February 15th so people receive them when they are supposed to. I remember when I applied February 15th was supposed to be on a Sunday so I wasn’t expecting anything till the week afterwards. To my surprise, I got the letter on a Thursday! What a great start to the weekend. Hope your daughter gets into Clemson and then get a chance to visit! It’s a great campus in a great location and agriculture is a great major to be in here.

Congrats to thinkpink for getting in!

It is such a cool campus. I fell in love with it on my first visit there over spring break last year. Since then, I have gone back one more time and its just such a cool place.

Oh, thanks, Pierre. Good to know. UF actually accepts on the 9th, so it will be an exciting week . . . though I’m hoping she hears from Clemson before then.

Congratulations, ThinkPink.
