I received a letter from USNA saying I was offered a conditional appointment to NAPS. A month later in January they sent me a rejection letter telling me that my waiver for my eyes and told me I should do NROTC instead at some college. I was crushed because USNA was my first choice school. But later on I got accepted to USMA, USAFA, and USMMA and I already accepted an appointment to go to USAFA to join the class of 2010. Now, today, USNA sent me a letter saying that they have changed their minds and changed my waiver status to approved. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??!!!! I've already accepted USAFA(an equally exceptional school), but my first choice school is giving me a chance. This whole admissions process....WHOA. I dunno.

If USNA is your first choice, then you know what to do.

Notify USAFA if you go Navy, though. Fair is fair. OTOH, since Navy seems to be going back and forth, you may want to hold on to that USAFA appointment in case Navy changes their mind again.

I thought this thread was going to be about our misguided friend. :o

Go to Kings Point.

Seriously, if your first choice is Navy, and you want to be a Naval Officer go to USNA.

USNA- you got what you wanted now take it!

Hey, your dream came true! Confirm that USNA is indeed offering you an Appointment, then accept it. Look at it this way, by accepting Navy's offer you will open up a spot for someone dying to get into USAFA.

But I hope it's not to late for someone who wants to go to USAFA. I know a lot of kids who applied there this year and felt bad that they didn't get it. But I'm waiting, so far it's a win-win situation. Although I'm medically qualified, I still have to be accepted. If they don't accept me, I still get USAFA.

It sounds like they really wanted you in Navy. After you took on the USAFA, they flipped out and suddenly changed their mind. Either that or spots actually did open up for USNA. It's messed up but they may wait until a week before I-day to say "come on in".

Personally, I'd keep USNA as your #1 option up until I-day passes. If a day before you go to AFA, USNA offers you a spot, I'd still say go for it. It's your #1 choice. Don't settle for second best. :)

How would USNA even know that hamarcelo accepted the USAFA appointment?

I know that if someone signs up for DEP (Delayed Entry Program) for enlisted Navy, it has the chance of looking better for someone because it shows that even if they don't get accepted to USNA, they're still going Navy and not some low life Air Force Academy (just kidding).

I believe that it shows up in the computers somehow that they're already registered for REGNAV. The same may hold true for other academies. It's the military; I'd at least expect some sort of communication. However, I can definitely see how it may just be a coincidence. I was just throwing it out there.

I think that I'm going to go enlisted Navy anyway if I'm not accepted to USNA. First choice is USNA, second is NAPS, third is enlisted Navy, fourth is Burger King. ;) If I get anything other than first choice, I plan on continuing to apply every year thereafter until I work my way in. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that and I can just get into USNA. I still have another year left in high school. So, hopefully DEP will look good for USNA. I'm going to talk to a Blue and Gold before jumping into that though. I'm not 100% sure if that's the best idea. It came from an enlisted recruiter and I'm sure they just want recruiting credits.

usnso - are you going to NASS? I know that was the "hook" for my daughter. I also know that she made some very good contacts during the week.

usnso,

Instead of enlisting, you might want to try a civilian college under NROTC. I think your chances of getting in would be better than from the fleet, and from the fleet they'd probably send you to NAPS anyway, so you'd lose yet another year.

Just a thought.

enlisting under something like Nuke power will def. help you. Even if you don't get into USNA, you still have officer opportunities w years after "A" school.

Well ultimately, I'm hoping that I can get into USNA. If not USNA, then NAPS. So really, enlisted is my third choice just so that I at least have something if all else fails. In NROTC, I'd be starting my major and then applying after a year anyway, which would seem fairly pointless to me.

I was already rejected from NASS (today), but that's probably because I don't have sports or SAT scores yet. However, I'll be working on all that stuff for the next year or so.

My mind and heart are set on USNA. It's been my goal to go there for a long time now and I will do anything to get there. I would rather not do NROTC because it's just not the same and I wouldn't want to settle for that. Also, you can't spell crotch without ROTC. ;) But I was thinking about enlisted and I know that USNA Admissions loves it when prospective officer candidates have prior enlisted experience.

But hopefully, it doesn't come to that and I can get right into either NAPS or USNA without having to take a year to do enlisted, then NAPS, then USNA.

usnso i hope we both get into the academy. :(

Class of 2011!!!!!!! (or 2012 with NAPS)...(or 2014 with prior enlisted)...or never! I'm really aiming for that 2011 though. I love everything about this school.

This got me to thinking. Every single person who has seriously persued admission to USNA is at least somewhat messed up in the head lol.

im actually praying on NAPS. I think I'll be happier if I get into NAPS than if I get DA'ed into USNA. I don't know why.I'm such a doofus.

Well seriously though, I'd be happy with both. I'd be thrilled out of my socks if I got into USNA right off the bat. But an appointment to NAPS would be just as good. It means I'm one step closer to USNA:)
