Confused?

Alright so I already got into the college of my choice, which is UCLA and I heard back from all of the other UCs and CSUs that I applied to and I got accepted. The only one I hadn’t heard from was CSULB and today I found out that I was put on waitlist. It was my second choice but it doesn’t really matter anymore since I got into my first choice.

I guess I’m just curious as to how colleges decide? I’m confused about how I got into Ucla and not Csulb and I figured people on here would know a lot more than me. Thanks in advance!

(btw my stats are above average for CSULB and I applied as a Psychology major to both UCLA and CSULB if that makes a difference)

Why even give it another thought? It isn’t worth your time or energy. You are into your top choice. Go buy your UCLA hoodie and bumper sticker and forget all about CSULB.

Haha yeah thanks!!

Admissions are holistic, so you’ll never really know. Colleges get applicants with the same GPAs, test scores, backgrounds, etc. You should definitely be happy you got into UCLA, especially since it was your #1! Go celebrate and focus on the acceptance, not a waitlist or rejection.

I totally get the curiosity factor, but you’re never going to find out the reason. You won’t care at all in a few months, because you will be too busy kicking butt and taking names at UCLA.

I don’t know if CSULB factors interest at all, but that may be part of the reason, if you showed none. Or, if your stats are well above their average, they are probably practicing yield protection. As in, they think you aren’t likely to attend.

CSULB admits by CSU/UC GPA, test scores, major and geographic location. Applicant’s interest is not considered. If is very possible that since you were not local, that you were waitlisted. With CSU’s, priority is given to local in-service area applicants, so local applicants with lower stats will get in over higher stat out of area applicants.

As all posters have stated, you got into your first choice so embrace the opportunity to be a Bruin.
