Congrats, you got into UCLA!

@ mkcman17

I agree with your feelings, but you just have to have confidence and will that you will succeed. I can guarantee you that if you study and take school seriously, you will get over a 3.0 gpa at a UC.

idk …Evan… do i look like a typical liberal?

OP is some ■■■■■ ****

And plus, you got to take that risk. A lot of people do. It is something we must do.

When you get a loan, get a job, go to school, you are always taking a risk that you could be a failure. But if we were afraid to take risks, humanity would not have reached this far.

Honestly, it is good to worry, but most of us will be fine. I think only the party people have to worry!

@thebigshow

I mean I take risks…I used the money I saved from JC to buy a house, and have a mortgage…not much more going out on a limb than that in this economy! but realistically, I have never been able to ‘get serious’ about school more than simply showing up to class. I’m worried.

You can’t have that attitude
going to a school like UCLA. You have to believe that you can handle it. I have the attitude that I will outwork everyone around me. It has worked pretty well so far.

good intentions do not equal good grades. I think my worries are justified, and hopefully it will make me a more concientious student because of it.

Showing up to class already takes so much more dedication than you think haha :slight_smile: I am afraid I will fail at life… But that has not stopped me from anything I chose to do! You don’t know me personally so you’re just going to have to trust me on this… I literally skipped 2/5th of hs . I enrolled in classes in college but never attended or even bothered dropping them. But its the mentality that I do not want to live a pay check by paycheck life that motivated me to pursue something that not only will help me but the lives of anyone else that I can help. We’ve come so far… Can’t give that up because something is hard, its not imposible yet :slight_smile: no need to not try ur best!

@nymphz

agreed! best of luck to you. i kind of like this quotation from coolidge:

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

stay motivated, bud! i’ll try and do the same.

This thread raises valid point.

I will allow it.

Delete this thread.

I really don’t like the idea that worrying somehow helps you succeed. If you go into UCLA worried that you may fail, you have just taken the first step in that direction. It sounds so incredibly stupid and cliche, but it’s the truth. Academics are very similar to athletics from this standpoint. For example, someone like Mike Tyson was ridiculously confident and believed he was going to destroy the man across from him every single fight. The other man, 99% of the time, had already lost the fight because they were “worried” and intimidated by Mike. With that said, a little worry is perfectly acceptable, that’s just being realistic, although i’m not sure it will do you any good…

Motivation is another very important factor, obviously. Most of us have already figured out what motivates us. For me personally, i’m motivated by what the future could bring if i do well in school. As a poster above said, I don’t want to live paycheck by paycheck. I also feel like i have something to prove. I graduated high school with a 2.7 (might have been 2.5, don’t remember). Nobody around me thought i was all that intelligent, including friends. My parents didn’t even touch college, so they didn’t exactly expect me to go. All this has worked in my favor and has motivated me to prove myself to others and, well, myself!

What motivates you?

shut the **** up

well *****, i was thinking maybe if i was worried about not succeeding i would…i dunno…go to class and get things done on time to ensure that i can hang. but maybe you’re right. i’ll go grab a joel osteen book and snag my 4.0

Or we could ignore this thread and carry on with our lives.

I did just that, and look at me now! I own a mansion and a yacht!

why is everyone so offended by this thread…

cuz it s**ts on our dreams :(

lol i don’t know why either. OP is just stating a realistic example but as another member said… If they did not think you would qualify for their school they wouldn’t had accepted you :smiley: So I don’t really see how you would not succeed as most of the applicants who WANTS to attend will probably DO well in order to keep their enrollment

Word, playa.
