Congratulations to the Class of 2010!

Hey Everyone,

As a current freshman at Harvard, I'd like to offer you my personal congratulations for a really amazing achievement. I love it here, and hope that if you choose to matriculate, you will love it, too.

kids, don't listen to saxfreq. he can only lead you astray.

dude, don't you have work to do? (-:

thanks!!!
cant wait till next year!!!!

"dude, don't you have work to do? (-:"

Yes. =)

Haha, reserve the judgement. You're the one they should be weary of; weren't you the one at breakfast who referred to your prefrosh as a "pet"? Sketchyyyyyyyy.

Prefrosh.net!

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Harvard '10!!!!!!!!!!!!!

go crimson!

prefrosh are like pets. i even have a little wicker basket and a bowl of water for them when they come.

Ah, prefrosh. To be young again :)

"prefrosh are like pets. i even have a little wicker basket and a bowl of water for them when they come."

hahahahahahahahahahah. will you scratch their bellies and make them play fetch?

Kamo lives in Lamont already, don't encourage him to be even more of a library hermit!

It's good to see that I'm not the only harvard frosh stalker on this board :)

But Lamont is always crowded now! It needs more space! D:

"Kamo lives in Lamont already, don't encourage him to be even more of a library hermit!"

No, Lamont and I are having marriage problems. I don't want to talk about it. It might have something to do with my having an affair with Widener (during the day) and the Adams House Library (at night.) But shhh.

PS, now that you fine scholars have gotten into Harvard you should probably become familiar with your second homes, ie the libraries.

saxfreq: But you're always in Loker! :P

Hahahahahaha. says the kid whose roommates don't even know where he is 90% of the day.

hey guys...

now that the initial shock and happiness is beginning to subside, im starting to think seriously about next year. since im going away soon, i need to decide now if im going to apply to yale rd. my biggest reason for doing so would be my fear (granted, perhaps its wrong, thats why i ask) that harvard kids are really stressed out, competitive and generally can be found in libraries. i know you'll say oh well you can be but you dont have to be but...idk, i guess im just looking for the true harvard experience from people who are there.

so thanks in advance for any help you can give.
:)

Whenicomearound-Definitely apply to Yale RD! Regardless of whether your fears are true or not (my vote is for mostly not true), it's always good to have choices. Yale has a lot of the same strengths as Harvard (House/College system, top notch faculty in all departments, smart kids), along with some differences (architecture, surrounding city, alcohol policy, quality of football team, :-P). So apply, see if you get in, and if you do, make sure you visit + do overnights at both.

I'm sure others will chip in about student life at Harvard, but I'll give my two cents. People here definitely do seem to be competitive, but the competitive drive tends to be internal, rather than external (ie classes aren't graded on hard curves, BUT everyone is used to being the best, so wants to be president of a club, or professor's favorite). It's definitely something you can avoid or relish, depending on what you want.

Harvard kids definitely can get stressed out... I know I was last weekend. There are SO many appealing opportunities here that it's hard not to try to do more than is humanly possible. It's not inevitable to be stressed... if you just take your four classes and pick an EC, you'll have plenty of free time. If you pick a bunch of upper level classes, join a bunch of time-consuming organizations, have a significant other, and refuse to get anything less than straight As... you'll be stressed :-P.

As for kids living in libraries, some do, but it's a very small subset. Some Harvard kids take hard classes, do all the reading, etc. In the same way, some people write Crimson stories every day, live in the newsroom, etc. Most people spend some quality time at the libraries, especially before midterms/finals, but nothing crazy.

so excited for next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhh i want to go now

"now that the initial shock and happiness is beginning to subside, im starting to think seriously about next year. since im going away soon, i need to decide now if im going to apply to yale rd. my biggest reason for doing so would be my fear (granted, perhaps its wrong, thats why i ask) that harvard kids are really stressed out, competitive and generally can be found in libraries. i know you'll say oh well you can be but you dont have to be but...idk, i guess im just looking for the true harvard experience from people who are there."

Definitely apply to other schools if you're genuinely worried. I applied to 6 other schools after getting into Harvard EA last year.

As far as stress here, it really depends on you. My entryway is interesting because we represent the range of students here, I think. We have the kids who hardly do any work and the kids who live in the libraries and pull all nighters at least 3 times a week. I'm somewhere in-between, likely closer to the latter example (unfortunately.)

Then again, I chose my classes, and knew what I was in for. It's all dependent. I would recommend using first semester of freshman year to test the waters and get a sense of what you can handle here at H. It's no secret that you will often get more work than is humanly possible to complete.

If you want a wide range of true experiences from Harvard students, go to www.prefrosh.net and join the yahoo group. The group mods (all current student) definitely vary in experiences and opinions when it comes to things like this, and made the group specifically for people like you who have these questions and want them answered by Harvard students.

Best of luck for the rest of senior year.
