<p>Does anyone think that expressing interest and doing things such as attending the admitted student chat or submitting enrollment deposit has any influence on scholarship decisions? What I mean by this is, if they know you love USC, do you think they offer you less, or even more merit scholarship? </p>
<p>It is important to remember that the scholarships are recruitment tools, so I advise against submitting a commitment deposit prior to the interview/receiving notice of what scholarship you have been awarded - if you have already committed, there is no longer a need to recruit you. I would advise that you be prepared to list the things that drew you to USC, and it would be advantageous to be familiar with specific programs and opportunities to demonstrate that you have done your research and have a legitimate interest in USC. I advise against gushing about USC 
, as it tends to look a bit immature. Let them know that you are very interested in USC but that you have to wait until you have all the information before making a decision.</p>
<p>Other posters have posted good arguments for the opposite point of view in the past, so hopefully they will chime in and give you their thoughts!</p>

Interviewing for Trustee Scholarship, Dornsife- Political Science, CA </p>
<p>I am up for the Presidential scholarship from Memphis, Tennessee and I am majoring in biomedical engineering so Viterbi</p>
<p>@alamemom, perhaps you and others can advise : is naming USC as first choice for NMF a good idea if you are interviewing for Presidential Scholarship?..what are chances of getting bumped up to Trustee ( though I know that it is all finally up to the interview committee and …)…bec. now as a NMF the Presidential is already guaranteed without interview.</p>
<p>If you plan on attending USC, yes, you should name USC as your first-choice with National Merit Corp by the deadline (which I believe is May 1st). However, I do not think that naming USC as first choice or not naming USC as first choice before the interview would have any impact either way on the outcome of your interview.</p>
<p>The chance of being bumped up is very small, but the chance exists, so why not give it your best shot :)</p>

<p>Did I read comments earlier that we should complete housing info now, even before the scholarship interviews next month? Have not done it yet and wondering if that’s a problem. </p>
<p>If you don’t mind the non-refundable fee (used to be $49 or something like that), it would be smart to complete the housing contract stuff now. Freshman housing at USC is first come, first served. The sooner you get in the line, the better. If you do it now, you will be in front of everyone else who won’t be able to get in line until they receive their acceptances in March. You will still most likely have your first choice dorm if you sign up now-- you are not too late at all. However, if you choose not to come to USC, you will lose the non-refundable fee. </p>
<p>**You can always change your specific dorm requests until sometime in May if you change your rank order of choices-- so it is ok to put down anything now just to get in line. </p>

<p>My daughter has been admitted to SCA with an invitation to interview for the Presidential scholarship, which she’ll be doing in early March. She is also a National Hispanic Scholar. At the end of this process (to include what might be offered in April), will the National Hispanic Scholar status play a role in what she will be offered in merit aid?</p>

<p>the only bit of optimism is that people who didn’t get an interview haven’t gotten the status change yet so does that mean anything? </p>
<p>act, why would that be “the only hope of optimism?” You WILL receive notification of your scholarship award regardless of the outcome so IF a status change means that your scholarship decision has been made (and we have no solid evidence that it does), the status change would not indicate good news or bad news, just that a scholarship decision had been made. (Hopefully that makes sense.)</p>
<p>For example, in about two weeks the “status change” to “The committee has acted on…” will occur for all applicants. Unlike in January when NO rejections were sent, in March the status change simply means that a decision has been made and that decision could be admit OR deny. The memory of the astoundingly GOOD news that accompanied that status change in January makes it hard to understand that now, a status change is just a status change and may be followed by good or not as good news in terms of scholarships or admission.</p>
<p>So, as you suspect, it is very likely that your status change means a scholarship decision was made in your case. It in no way indicates what scholarship you may or may not have been awarded.</p>
<p>The “bit of optimism” you CAN hold on to is that the wonderful record of achievement that led to your scholarship candidacy will almost certainly result in a Director’s or larger scholarship at USC.</p>
