I recently received a congratulatory letter from my regional admissions officer on my acceptance, and I was wondering if anyone else received one. My classmate who got in ED as well did not receive one. So was he unlucky and the mail got lost, or does each Adcom differ in his/her decision on sending out these letters?

stop showing off

.......lol

strange question. was your application focused on some particular hook? are you a recruited athlete? Have you done one thing in particular that was spectacular?

I also got a letter. It was pretty general with a small handwritten note on the bottom, so I figured that it was sent to everyone.

rd31, by no means am I trying to "show off". I was asking a legitimate question to all Columbia 2012 acceptees. I'm not a recruited athlete, nor did I do anything that can be considered spectacular compared to some other applicants. I was curious; that was all.

Thank you for your reply, Shirahyuki.

That's not true. You were trying to show off, but that's not a bad thing. Assuming that you got the letter based on your performance in HS, I would think that you'd be smart enough to figure this out with common sense. Obviously, your adcom really enjoyed your application and felt compelled to send you something else other than the usual admit letter.

I got a letter too, but from Barnard

Once again, you've misunderstood. However, my question has been answered; there is no need for me to defend my intention. Thanks for your answer, pearfire. It is time to let this thread die out.

I definitely got a letter too and I am not an athlete, legacy or super applicant so I think that the letter is nothing special. Maybe the reason that not everyone got a letter is because some admissions people send it out and some don't.

I got one. It has a little hand written note at the bottom. Pretty cool.

1) I don't think OP was showing off. Some of you are being harsh.

2) I've never heard of this before. I wonder if it's a new thing this year.

I got that from a couple of other colleges when I applied a few years back but not Columbia. They probably just realized it was a nice thing to do, as well as that it helps endear the university to the applicants, and decided to do notes. Maybe it makes Columbia seem like less of a bureaucracy?

Wow, one to talk.

I got one too. It might vary region to region.

I got one. It seemed like the kind of letter they sent to everyone, I dunno for sure though
