I already applied for the House Page Program this summer, but no one ANYWHERE seems to know when I will be notified if I made it or not.

Does anybody know?

Former Pages: When were you notified??

Thanks

Same question, but for senate page program

My daughter has received preliminary acceptance into the Congressional Page program, but nothing official yet. The announcement will go out by the end of this month.

When and to which program did she apply to?

And if you don’t mind, what were her stats? I heard these make up a large portion of the decision.

Do you know if there is still time to apply for the summer program or if I missed it?

I think it’s too late. The applications I did fo rthe second session were due around March 19th to my Congressman’s office, then they were to send it on within a week or something.

Just a question, if you don’t personally know someone in congress there’s no way to get into this right?

Well, that would mean that it’s rigged, and we all know how fair politics is… :D

But seriously, you don’t need to know them personally. Taht’s what the application process is for.

Doesn’t it say that you need to know a congressman or something? Lol I guess not… I guess you just apply as you would to anything else.

Bump…

No! My son is currently serving as a Senate Page and we knew no one in the Senators office. And I am a registered voter of the the other party! He was chosen on his merit. He is a good student, not the best. He is a very good dedicated athlete, not the best, he has many outside interests he peruses and is active but not an officer in any club. He also had a very good working resume and recommendations from coaches, employers and his principal …This has been the most amazing opportunity of his life and he is loving every minute of it and it is tough!

I encourage anyone interested in this program to go for it. Actually it may have hurt my sons GPA because the classes and what is expected is much harder than here at home. A mixed blessing. It is to be seen if the experience itself will out weigh the slight drop in GPA. Actually I am sure it will. The life lessons learned are priceless! I do hope college admissions folks look at that way too!

My son was appointed last Friday. It took about 4 weeks from his phone interview until he got a decision from Washington. It’s the Speaker of the House and the Minority Leader who make the final decision.

My daughter was told by the washington office that the letters are going out this week (May 17, 18 or 19). But it seems others have heard. Did your son hear from Washington or his Representative’s office. Can I ask, who is his representative?

Ohhh… I see.

This sounds really interesting. Anyone know what exactly you get taught at the page school?
Reading the website atm and it says that they attend classes there. By the way, what exactly does it mean to get sponsored by a representative? How do you get in touch with a congress(wo)man?

Is anyone accepted to the second summer session? It will start on July 11th? We would like to get in touch with you if you will be attending during that time. We are from Arizona.

I vsn only speak for the page school however the house program must be simallar. The school teaches core subjects every Hs junior would be taking. Math , English, Science, history. But within that wide subject the student is taught where he is. Some AP, some not. They meet them where they ate and with only a handfull of kids in the class that can be accomplished. The quality was so much better than here at home, it nearly blew my kids mind, in a good way! The school hours are
short 6:30 to 9ish but is dependant on the Senate schedule and for us , Snowmegeddon! Homework is imense! Hours daily. Not a bad trade off for being in the room for the state of the union address. Shaking hands with Presidents( current and past). Actually meeting (some) foreign heads of state while merely being in the pressence of others. Watching history unfold literally inches from them and daily assisting in that process. Living in an amazing city with 29 other kids from
around the country who are rockstars themselves, the acheivements
of some of these kids was amazing! Plus having a group to saftly have the run of city with money in their pockets! They actually make quite a chunk of change! Fine dinning, museums, events second to none! I can go on,

Oops. Sorry the bad thumb typing from my phone. Ate =are. You’ll get what I mean

Is it safe? Yes. My DS experiance was that the supervision was great. The safety rules were strickly enforced. The kids do every thing in a large or small group. The proctor were
kind, and in charge. The relationships were sealed very quickly. These 30 kids live together, go to school together, work 40plus hours a
week together, recreate together, eat together, get their dry cleaning, witness amazing events and hours of tedious boredom together, play together, act stupid together, work through homesickness, difficult tests, bad days together. My son would go back in a heart beat! He has already met 5 of his page pals for mini reunion 6 states away ( bought and paid for the tickets himself with his US Capitol Credit Union debit card). See, money still left. The maturity diffrence is like he aged at least 5 years. Although he called me at work the other day because he couldn’t find the mayonaise in our house!?! Sorry. Surely there is a rule about epic posting but this program has really changed the direction in my DS life. Not that it was heading Ina bad direction but the ambition, disapline, courage, and self esteem that he came home with, priceless!

Also got patents. C-span and c-span 2! It is cameras rolling, many angles of the house or senate floor. The first day ds was there I saw him live on C-span 2( senate side). Best invention, best public funded program ever! If it ever needs funding I am first in line! It is like having your own personal nannycam! How I wish I could watch my kids at work all day forever! That really makes it easier on us parents! I think we might be the only ones who really watch it. Shhhhh! Don’t tell, future page parents need it. Heck maybe even the Senators parents watch! Plus I was amazed how much “I” learned! Ok ok i am done. Kids, do this! Parnets, let’em!
