I'm applying for the U.S. congressional page program and was wondering if I have a good chance of being accepted

-Rigorous AP Classes

Activities:
-Debate, received a TOC bid my sophomore year
-Tons of Volunteer Work at different places
-Math Competitions
-Established my own non-profit organization
-Orchestra (Violin I)
-Library Board Member
-Helped with Economic Development Committee for my community
-Formally presented a research paper in front of world renowned dignitaries at a conference
-President of Student Council in Middle School
The only thing I'm worried about is that my GPA is fine overall but with the core subject requirement, it's a little on the down side. but I believe my recommendations will be fine. any chance?

It all comes down on the district you are applying to. Are you applying to the Senate or House…or both? The Senate Program is much more competitive, while the House Program is less due to the smaller amount of applicants. There is one thing though, not all House Representatives can sponsor a Page, so even if you apply through your Congressional district, there is still a chance that you may not get in. The key part of getting sponsored is personality (professionalism) and work ethic.

Good luck! You can email me if you have any questions: terrencekim@live.com

I am applying for the House Program, and my representative is able to nominate a page for this fall semester. I have been working on my application, and I have to submit it by Friday! ahhh so stressed. but I really really want it! Do you know how long it approximately takes for you to hear back from them?

I applied on Friday November 6th and I got my acceptance call from the district office November 9th (MY BIRTHDAY!).

Some of my other Page buddies didn’t know until two months later. It really depends.

Wow, that’s so great that you got the news on your birthday! Thanks so much your help, I really appreciate it!

Does getting a nomination guarantee acceptance into the program?

From what it seems like, the whole submit transcript/recs only comes into play when one is trying to get a nomination.

With my specific Congressman, he just needs a letter of intent, and an interview. The rest is submitted directly to the program.

Thanks!

I’m not entirely positive about this, but I’ve been reading a couple of forums and I don’t think that getting the nomination necessarily confirms the acceptance into the program.
