Cons of UCLA?

list away!

well, seems like everyone's always concerned with their looks. but i guess that's L.A. for you.

None. it is a perfect institution.

iwantcal- out of curiosity (sincerely), do you really think that that's exclusive to LA? Cuz um. I'd venture to bet that college students everywhere are perhaps overly concerned with that. Really, just head on over to the College Life board.

That said...

Cons of UCLA?

Lack of decent looking guys who aren't super consumed by the frat scene. Well, that and enrollment is always stressful (even with priority).

No, but I think he/she means that it's something that's seen more frequently at UCLA than many other schools, and I think that statement holds some validity.

I also love how people ardently defend their own schools. I see that "everyone's concerned with their looks" is argued while "it's a perfect institution" is left alone. :)

I think a con of UCLA is that people who come from LA are sometimes...well, sick of LA. Also, it's a very large institution which some people don't like (this ties in with the enrollment problem).

Not enough bars in Westwood... really not a whole lot of places in Westwood to just hang out unless you want to see a movie or go out and eat. Actually you can thank the Homeowner's Association for that and their zoning laws for trying to kill the nightlife there... they're also the reason we don't have an on-campus football stadium. So basically, the Homeowner's Association.

^ Haha McGizzle.

Sometimes seems racially clique-y, though not always

Slackers, trend-whores, philistines.

how hard is it to get into classes? i understand some impacted ones pertaining to certain majors are very competitive. but the majority of humanities classes and GEs dont seem that hard, correct me if i'm wrong.

Urban Location, Expensive, Huge Size, Hollywood, Preppy Pretentious Materliastic People, Likely target for Al Qaeda....

UCLA FALL 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Viccissitudes- I didn't address the "its a perfect school" comment because it kind of struck me as a joke. I don't think anyone thinks the school is perfect, and I don't think that would be possible. It wasn't a matter of arguing negative comments over positive ones, but instead arguing the comments that seemed to be stated seriously.

Namaste- it's not super hard to get into classes, but a lot of times there might be something you want to take that only admits 15-30 people. That's when it's stressful. Also, the chances of being waitlisted or worse are fairly significant if you're trying to enroll during second pass. That's stressful, too.

I heard there weren't any good curry places in Westwood from UCLAri. But as has been said, it's perfect.

The bad:

The hill. The hill. The hill.

You have to walk uphill both to and from class. No joke.

^ i always thought that was a good thing. Good excercise

It got old. :(

I didn't mind it that much. Great calves.

I know I know, I was trying to satirize the students' preference towards praises of their school over criticisms of their school. (notice my smiley) The "perfect school" comment is obviously a joke.

I have heard complaints about the hill though.

Yeah it does suck that there aren't more places to just hang out in Westwood and that its taking so long to get an on-campus bar going. And for some people, the huge size of UCLA is a problem (I personally love it).

"huge size of UCLA"? I thought UCLA had the smallest campus out of all the UC's.
