Considered for both Sep. and Feb.?

I applied regular, saying I preferred September admission, but for some reason said I'd want to be considered for both Sep. and Feb. I really don't want to be admitted as a Feb, and I wouldn't matriculate unless it were my only college choice.

I'm being recruited for a Fall sport though (and am a strong applicant uw3.95+ 2200+), so that should virtually eliminate my chances of Feb. admission, right?

Would it be worth contacting admissions to ask them if they could change my app to "only wants to be considered for Sep. admission"? or is it too late?

Thanks

Wait, what’s your reason for not wanting to be considered for feb? Strength of application has no bearing on whether you’d be a feb admit or not (although, fall sport could). Febs are just as, if not more, qualified as regs.

I don’t want to arrive “late” when the other freshman have already made friends, stuff like that. And, I don’t want to miss my fall sport.

My S originally said he would only start in the fall, then when he was wait-listed said he’d take either. He is now a Feb and extremely happy. He got a great room, all his requests for classes, and has already been very active in 2 clubs.Midd goes totally out of their way to welcome the Febs and integrate them into the life of the college.

However, I think if you are being recruited for a fall sport, it is rather unlikely you’ll be a Feb.Midd is so worth it, and it is so competitive-as are other small LACs-you might just want to leave it and see how it shakes out.

I know lots of Febs at my school (Colorado College) who really enjoyed the experince of coming at that time of year. Most say the four months off were a great time to travel, and have fun.

alright, it’s not like I’ve been admitted as a feb yet. does anyone know whether or not it’d be appropriate to “update” the admissions office, saying that I don’t want to be considered for feb admission? (and, if so, where can I find regional admission officers’ emails?)

maybe I should just email the coach…

The odds of being admitted as a feb are pretty low anyway, not to mention the overiding fact that you’re a fall sport recruit. I would definitely not say anything.

Right, they might take it as lack of serious interest, and lower down on the list you go…My S wishes he had said he would take either semester, maybe would have missed that whole not-so-fun wait-list experience…

what is the purpose of the february admission?

I think its to fill in spaces that are left by people studying abroad/transferring out.

True about filling beds but it also provides an option for people who want a little time off to pursue something and the school (and students!)say it enlivens things with a slightly different type of person/experience.

If you are TRULY being recruited for a fall sport, wouldn’t you already have some assurance of admission. That, plus your scores, would suggest that you would be admitted for September. Coach can probably offer some guidance on this.

I wouldn’t bother contacting them about it. Chances are, if they admit you as a Feb, you would do really well as a feb. I have a friend who applied saying that she only wanted to be considered as a Reg, but she was admitted as a Feb. Turns out, she loved being a Feb and her personality fit perfectly for a Feb class member. Somehow, admissions seem to know who would make a great Feb, and regardless of what one puts on the app, you will be admitted with the correct entering class for your personality, even if that class is unexpected.
